Physical Contact.

Why is it that we sometimes have longing to just feel someone next to us, just to feel a physical presence, for someone to just be there? What is it with humans and other animals alike that makes physical contact such a large part of our lives and our needs?...This really came to my attention 2 nights ago when my friend's kitten who was abandoned by his mother wouldn't stop crying until I picked him up, let him curl up to my neck, and petted him...then he finally slept, but nothing else worked...toys, no noise, noise, milk etc..
This happens with me too all the time...I feel I am becoming seriously ed up without getting hugs and kisses for a long time. :clown:

Is it just me or is physical contact an actual need for you too?

i cry until i put it in someone's poop chute. The cry/pop is a science and most def a need.

Because we're social animals?

We're pretty frail and helpless on our own - makes sense that we have a drive to seek eachother out.

I find that physical contact is very stimulating in many ways. I enjoy it a lot.

For some reason this thread made me think of Wilson. He's good company.

It depends. I find that I hate physical contact more than I like it. I mean, with the right person it's nice but seriously... what is up with guys hugging me. NEWSFLASH: Not all women think that hugging is the only appropriate way to say "hello."

It is a societal change that has happened with our generation Ang. It was something weird for me when it first started too. I have come to just go with it. It isn't THAT big of a deal imho. You afraid you're going to end up like tbills with mono or something?

My mother is the same way...and I think my strong need for affection now stems from lacking it from my parents while growing up. My father was always working so he wasn't around much..and my mother - no matter how much she loved me - hated physical contact from anyone..and was constantly 'rejecting' me whenever I tried to hug her. Boooo :(
I'm a very affectionate person..and when I don't get a good dose of hugs and kisses, I become sad. :(

Haha @ the mono thing.

But :conf: ..what are you talking about?
I dunno maybe it's just different in the US, but I'm Arabic, so we give eachother kisses on the cheeks and hugs when greeting each other. So it's normal for us. :)

You guys are just so cold. :p

Blame our ancestors.
BTW speaking of cats I wish mine would stop being such a computer junkie and go play by himself. There's only so much cat I can stand at one time. Guess that goes for humans too but they usually understand when you curl up into a corner.
