Thats approx £1000 $2000 a year .

The government looks set to allow congestion charging for drivers entering and leaving Manchester.

Plans for a two-ring scheme, charging up to £5 at busy times from 2013, are expected to be set out later.

The charge, which would be in place from 7am to 9.30am and 4pm to 6.30pm weekdays, would be offset by £3bn of public transport improvements.

Supporters of the plans hope they will reduce congestion and pollution, but opponents are calling for a referendum.

Charging rings

Government backing for the charging scheme would make Manchester the first major British city to follow London in introducing large-scale congestion charging.

The plans involve two charging rings, one at the M60, the other close to Manchester city centre.

Charges - triggered by a series of electronic beacons - would vary according to the starting point for the journey.

Good ole government...keep on slamming the honest tax payers just trying to survive these days of turmoil and skyrocketed energy and food costs. All this makes me want to take a few trips to Columbia and see if I can import a few kilos to help cover the increase in living expenses

They should start a campaign off were everybody in the country goes through a speed camera at 20-30mph over the speed limit, in reality the police could not issue the tickets and if nobody pays them what they going to do arrest a few million people each day.

:)

Leon Trotsky you are full of , your mother russia is reaping the benefits of these high oil prices. If it wasn't for that, Russia wouldn't be able to pay its debt and enjoy hyper capitalism.

Go spread your communist bull to some other boards.

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks adding more government intervention and regulation to the equation is completely niave and ignorant. What's with all the proliteriet talk? Your communist bull is weak.... making everyone equal by redistribution of wealth gives zero incentive and motivation to people to become independant and strive to reach their potential. It will also create a nanny state where everyone relies on the government intead of their individuality, which is what growing up in a communist system will brainwash you to believe is the way to go. Every time communism has been tried, it has failed. If you don't like capitalism, figure out a better method for acheiving success instead of going back to the Soviet 1930's playbook.

How do you think public transportation is made? Do the private companies simply build wherever they want? No. The governments (Mainly local, county and state) make a contract with these private companies to build in carefully planned out areas. The suburbs are packed to the hilt with houses and badly laid out roads, with hardly any open space. This means, in order to establish public transportation, whether it be more railroads, or bus lines, land must be cleared for railroads, and roads must be rerouted for more efficient bus lines, and this means eminent domain will be enacted, which is the governments duty. Your view of "DON'T LET THE GOVERNMENT INTERFERE" and "LAISSEZ FAIRE" is naive and simplistic. It doesn't work that way.

Like I said, the governments are the brainchild of how our communities are laid out. This includes public transportation. Anyone who says it's the people's fault for not having public transportation is highly uninformed about daily government processes and tasks.

You also might want to use spell check, instead of looking like a complete dunce.

I'll use spell check when you use grammer check----> you said "....which is the governments duty," when you should have said "government's duty." I can play that childish game too. You don't get it man. You are basing your argument on the premise that all of us want that public transportation system. Americans would rather have the freedom to use cars or whatever means of transportation on their own... in big cities it's more practical, but we are way to spread out as a country to have a system like they have in Europe. It's just not convenient and plausable. I don't understand why it's naive and simplistic to say don't let the government interfere. I'm all for them playing a part when it's necessary, but the key word is INTERFERE. And when they are INTERFERING, they are overextending themselves into areas that negatively affect the people. To you and your Marxist way of thinking, the government is the only and ultimate solution... to free thinking individuals, the free market, NOT givernment INTERFERENCE, is what stimulates progress and ideas. Haven't you learned anything from the history of communism?

"Governments'" Actually. There are numerous independent governments in the US. You'll learn that when you get out of the "High School Republican" phase.

Government interference of what? Thanks to government interference, we aren't in a deep seeded recession right now. If Bear Stearns was allowed to tumble, everything else would have collapsed soon after, and you fail to realize how close we were (Or are, even) to a quick sharp turn to hard economic times. Government interference has allowed special safety nets to be created so we DON'T see another 1929. Without government interference, you would be on a bread line getting just one loaf of bread with a wheelbarrow full of dollars. Right now, government is the only solution. The businesses have had 20+ years of Reaganomics to play with our lives, and now it's time for the proletariat to take them back.
