I'm happily living at home with my parents. Sure they can drive me crazy, but I just don't feel like paying for rent at the moment :p

I live in Manhattan in a SMALL one bedroom. I spend about $2500 a month in rent and bills (typical bills: rent, utilities, college loans, credit card, food, etc etc). my rent is soon going UP based on the multi-million dollar condos going up, too. Bull.

I am living comfortabely, but things like vacations usually have to be saved for like a year in advance. I dont really need to cut costs, AND am able to save/invest, BUT its still tight. I def need to make a budget and cant O.D. on a ton of stuff (no huge shopping sprees or random BIG vacations EVER.)

No way could I live on anything in the 20's 30's 40's per year in NYC and be comfortable.

I think somewhere around $50-60k is roughly what you need to be able to live a relatively normal lifestyle (having your own bedroom ... none of that curtain crap) in Manhattan without having to penny pinch your entire existence. Of course if you're a boozer you might have to live around the ABC's, york, or what have you.

thats my salary range^^. Thankfully, tho, I just started, and work for a great agency where rasies are the norm :)

The place I live in is small, but I love it. I live 1/2 block from the park, less than 10 blocks from central park, live on 2 express lines (midtown in 5 minutes), in a brownstone, and have exposed brick/fireplace/etc....not bad considering. ;) lol the only thing is that the bathroom, you have MANUEVER your body to fit/move anywhere! LOLOLOL ahhhh manhattan!!! You def pay for the CITY, not the apartment.

You know what else sucks here? grocery shopping. Holy fookin eh, its like $7 for a gallon of milk. I went to buy tomoatoes the other day and spent $11!! :eyes:

You ing suck. That is all I gotta say. Insurance can't be worse than california, which has some of the highest insurance rates in north america. And is your car financed or paid off? If it is paid off, you suck even more. Insurance goes down when it is free and clear!

I was making 3325/month before taxes, and I was doing pretty well for myself. Now I make 2400 before taxes. :( the pay cut sucked, but the job market is such a ty place right now in Cali. I really can't wait to be back in school.

edit//I was living in a place that was approximately 1700/month for a 2bdrm and I had 2 roomies. It wasn't bad, but by no means was it cheap.

God, that's pathetic. it's obvious you have a gambling, drug, or hooker addiction. that's the only explanation.

Two blocks away from the Met/central park ;). Moving out of a high rise into an UES brownstone (and yes exposed brick is nice!) was the best decision I ever made. Only crappy part is the commute all the way to downtown sucks and the green line can get packed but eh, I love my neighborhood. I don't know why, but a crapload of bars in UES have beer pong/flip cup ... I love it.

Yea groceries suck (3 ears of corn for $2??), but Dag has some decent specials sometimes. I'm more concerned with $10 six packs.

lol dont feel bad. I was the same way when i was in my early 20's. Made around the same pay then too. I was even so pathetic that i didnt even pay my car insurance, just my car payment. i put my car under my parents policy cause it was cheaper & they then started paying for it lol. but around age 23/24 things changed cause i moved out & then my expenses doubled but luckily i switched job positions at the company i was at & my pay doubled as well.
