| I said nothing about degrees. I said "educations," which is kind of that fuzzy "what did you actually learn from it" sort of thing, taking into account whether or not the person put effort into actually learning and improving their mind. Education is a lot more than just what subjects you study. And I'll wager at every school of renown in this country there are plenty of people giving themselves terrible educations right along with the ones who work to benefit from the opportunities they have. |

| I learned how to finger paint in public bathroom stalls. Does that count? |

Well, you're right. On the other hand, the 'real' world does not care if you appreciate great russian philosophers and writers, while it might help you pursue an innate desire to expand your mind, it's not what companies are looking for.
In reality, most private organizations are profit making and they will hire you according to their priorities. On the other hand, for other people, it's alot more important to be well-read and the such; diversity is a bitch. :stongue: |

I don't buy that. It is all about the piece of paper. The only thing I ever really learned from school is that I can make myself do a whole lot more that I ever thought I could, and that there are rare monsters capable of so much more than myself.
But how are you supposed to gauge a person's 'education' based on GPA and the name of their School? I don't think you can so the best I think is to look for someone who got a tough degree from a famous university. |

What's the point of getting a tough degree, if you make a 2.0? |

who said I had a 2.0?
And no I never called you a rare monster. Newton was a rare monster, Leibniz was a rare monster, Turing was a rare monster, etc...
I was never talking about students around me or even my professors, but from those I learned from. The ones who wrote the books and developed the subjects themselves.
But great way to stroke your ego. |

you're not stroking yours by claiming that only a Newton or a Turing is capable of more than you? |
