i think i put in well over 200 hours before i graduated - every week visiting schools for underprivileged kids, built houses for habitat for humanity, volunteered w/ special olympics

has always been mandatory in my school and high school diploma (international baccalaureate)

i helped raise over 5000 for aids education in malawi just last year

50 hours that's like one week of a full time job, it's not so bad.

They have that here in Ontario. 40 hours of community service before you graduate high school. It's not a bad idea.

I had this as well, in Southern California.

LOL

somehow I don't see this going over well with all the obama kiddies

This is a good thing. A lot of people would be humbled by helping for no money.

whatever, if Bush suggested this, people would be screaming facism, that's all I'm saying

I agree -

I volunteered 150 hours when I was in high school to a local hospital. Here's the catch, the government, nor the school, forced me to do it.

Sometimes it is good to be forced to do things. It can teach humility.

50 hours over a whole year is not that bad for highschool.

I think it's a good idea.

That's what parents should be doing.

Damn, everyone expects this man to change their lives for them on his own? Just keep up the same spirit of hard work and motivation you had when you were trying to get him elected, which many thought impossible, and I am sure that change will happen. How can it not?

I don't disagree.
