| I'm sorry, but I don't have 100 hours of my time to volunteer like that, especially when I can work for money. It should be made voluntary and should be repaid with tuition reimbursement, otherwise, off government. |

| I voted Obama, but if he said anything like this before the election it would've been enough for me to vote McCain now that I think about it. |

He did talk about this many, many times. He said he will give tuition reimbursement in exchange for service. |

Yep, I had read that, but it was voluntary. This article says required |

Yes. His goal is for you to give free labor and has nothing to do with any type of educational, developmental, social, cultural benefit you could possibly take away from said activity. |

I like it, personally. |
Me too. I did community service during junior & senior year in H.S
taking care of elderly citizens or teaching in under-developed public schools that were usually understaffed & poor (in terms of money and quality of their staff).
It's a good way of learning the not-so easy side of life that we usually forget about. |

I don't think "calling on" is the same as requiring. For me I took it as a challenge for the American youth to step up. |

I called you a few weeks ago about a commercial refrigerator, you never returned my call. |

To be honest, the fact that stuff like this can work is a little odd to me.
I mean, the draft seems kind of foolish too -- if I were drafted, I'd just betray the side that drafted me, preferably in the most dramatic and destructive way possible. If I'm forced to do community service, I just make sure to cause more problems that benefits. If I'm forced to do the dishes, I make sure to break a couple. Basically, if someone tries to force me to do something, I try to make sure the result is worse for them than if they had just left me alone. The reason being, this type of response naturally gives people an incentive not to mess with my business.
But it seems like most people just do what they're told...
I guess that's good; the world needs people like that. And maybe on balance, the obedient outnumber the contrary enough that you get a net benefit. I'll never understand those people, though. |

More importantly, could I use this community service to satisfy whatever the court gives me, should I get arrested.
Ex. I did 40 community service hours in HS. I get arrested freshman year of college for Public Intoxication and Idecent Exposure. Court rules to give me 50 hours of community service - can I use the 40 I just did in HS to satisfy a large portion of that and leave me with just 10 to do at some pet shelter or something.
Cuz then that's not a bad idea. It's like Community Service bank, lol. |

You didn't leave a call back number, nub! But we also don't manufacture commercial refrigerators. So in conclusion, u should complete some community service hours. :p |
