no, just renewing his current contract. meaning, if his contract were to end in 9 months, if he renews now, he gets the new contract with the new phone and is with his carrier for 2 years as of now. an example.
They just want you to stick around that much longer. |
This is semi false. The problem being that MOST carriers, unless you bitch enough, will not upgrade till you have 1-2 months left on your contract. I think VZW seems to be the only one that will upgrade 4 months before it ends. T-Mobile is 2 months, AT&T is 2 months (in the experience with a few friends, but it could be different I don't know their policy) and Sprint is hardcore about theirs. |

For California residents, ETFs have been deemed illegal. |
mmmm....i wouldn't say that. they still exist but for new customers there are monthly drops in cost to cancel. and Sprint is not backdating that for people so if you have been with them before Nov 2008 you still have to pay the $200 fee. though they are getting sued for $1.2 billion for that by the same guy that just beat Verizon for around ~$40 million for the same thing. |

Sprint isn't that bad now. with enough bitching (if your phone truly has issues) they will work with you.
and even if you are on a 2-year contract you can get a $100 discount i believe after 1-year if you are a long-term/'premier' customer. |

Well I was unaware they had eased up on being s. I know they have been rated as the worst in customer service many years running, even rivaling VZW. And that says a lot since VZW treats EVERYONE, including business customers, like . They are better with b2b (I loved their customer service on b2b compared to b2c but it still sucked ass) but still s.
The thing on ETFs being illegal. I haven't seen any new rulings on it, but the ruling, as it currently stands until the appeals are all finished, were fully illegal. We do have to wait for the appeals to finish though for the ruling to be final. :( |

Sprint is losing so many customers i think they are trying to please the ones they have left. lol.
personally i don't think EFTs are illegal as you clearly know up front what the deal is...but if they make them go away fine with me. :) |

LOL Sprint lost just shy of 3 million subscribers the last 2 quarters. That is HUGE when your new customer rate is insanely low. I think they are going to either file for bankruptcy within a year, or they are just going to shutter. Hopefully the former rather than the latter for obvious reasons, but I wouldn't complain if they died either.
And yeah, I am not against the ETF as it represents the subsidy they give on the phones. People that don't want to pay that can go themselves imho. It is not cheap for these companies to buy the phones and they are giving you a discount on the phones so that there is an incentive to stay. |

Sucks about Sprint, they easily have the best coverage nit he SF Bay Area.
So many smaller companies, like pre-paid phones companies...Virgin Mobile...all use Sprint's network and even their system for stuff like voicemail. |

MetroPCS is not an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Netowork Operator; ie Virgin, Boost, etc) and has phenomenal (at least when I used to have it and was there) coverage there also.
Also, yeah Sprint is dying. They are bleeding cash and customers. If they aren't dead by the end of 2009 I will be surprised. |

Not necessarily true. I been with T-Mobile since they first started in California many many many years ago. And trust me, I have upgraded my phone so many times. The upgrade price is different depending on the length you have remaining on your contract. If you upgrade, let's say 6 months before your contract is up, you'll get the phone for one price. If you upgrade closer to your due date, than you'll get the phone a lot cheaper.
My contract is up with T-Mobile and i'm still undecided if I wanna switch and get an iPhone, or stay and bring in my own iphone. I really like T-Mobile's customer service as many times they have hooked me up really good. There's been times when I gone over my minutes, and I called them and they give me more minutes for free. They always take care of me.

Hence why I said MOST. T-Mobile is the most willing to do early, give deals, etc. There is a reason they had the best customer service award for 5 years straight. This year they lost it to Verizon. I love T-Mobile. I have had them for like 4 or 5 years. Although I am tempted to switch to AT&T for 3g and the Touch Pro. Those two things are reason enough to switch.
Also, if you want an iPhone 3g, the full proper unlock is coming. They have made some real progress on the baseband. ;) |

Yeah, I love T-Mobile. My best experience with them was when they had a really good plan for cheap. I wanted that plan, but the promotion had expired about 2 months before. I called them up and they put me on hold so they could speak to a supervisor. When the lady came back she said that because I have a grandfather contract with them, and have been with them for a long time, they would give me that plan for that price! NOW THAT KICKS ASS!!!
