i do know you can customize the hell out of it since its on Windows Mobile....don't have much time/patience to do that. | Been using Juicy's ROM on my Diamond, doesnt really need much more customization. Just reinstall any programs you want and have ActiveSync working with your gMail account to restore all your contacts/calendar or use a PIM backup program.
Its no iPhone killer but it does have some advantages over it. I rather stick with my unlimited SERO plan for $35 a month than switch to AT&T too :whip: |

There is no such thing as an iPhone killer really. No one has better marketing. |

Yes, it's called OfCom. (Office of Communications). Why? |

Because our FCC limits things like no other. If it does not pass FCC muster (which is pretty stringent) then gets denied. |

I heard all sorts of stuff about this when I first got my HTC in the UK. Americans were complaining that the HSDPA band was all occupied by the government agencies (DOD, CIA, etc.) and took ages to vacate it and the FCC were all fine with this (being a government agency).
Aside from geographic issues, it was a major reason why the launch of 3g carriers was so delayed. As for HSUPA, that I think has the same problems. |

That isn't the only problem. The other problem lies in that the FCC doesn't do the spectrum auctions enough when there is available spectrum. They also are slow as hell to approve (de)regulation as necessary. So our market is super slow to change unfortunately. |

| I just got a call from the Verizon store I go to letting me know for those of us that got on a list for the phone - that the store will be open at a secret earlier than normal time on the 21st. |

Ahh, is that a UK vodaphone advert there? See what I mean, they're all free and they come out so fast.
I think it's because the auctions for the new spectrums are a really big deal and the licences go for billions when they come up. It's all pretty well organised (unlike the rest of the UK). Also for a country of 50 million people, the UK probably probably has 6 major (main) mobile providers and at least about 10 more minor/pay as you go options - the competition is heavy so they have to really try to get customers, which means free phones are basically a right, not a privilege.
check this out - Iphone for free, G1 for free, latest Nokias for free, latest Sony Ericsson for free etc.....

It seems sprint are the only guys over here really doing deals for customers from what I hear... |

| T-Mobile does good deals for current customers a lot of times as long as you aren't a relatively new customer. I have been with them for 4 years. |

I was a tmoble customer in the UK so when I came out here, I asked them to send a a message to a local branch to set me up. Even though it's technically a different entity and I was taking out a new contract, they hooked me up like a long standing customer. They really screwed up a few things when I changed plans (lost the line for a couple of days) and they did the same to my girlfriend but all that said, I've been really happy with them and they are cheap for what you get. Their (free) phone deals in the UK rock but their phone selection over here is really outdated and lame. Get my phones from the UK whenever I go back.... |
