It's amazing how Nadal is able to return every ball...
However, I think even he will be spent come Sunday. I'm thinking Federer in 3 or 4.

i don't know guys this was a very draining match but nadal has some time to recoup. also keep in mind we are at the beginning of the year so he isn't exactly worn out as he typically is (last year an exception) by say the US Open. He wants this bad and Verdasco matched him in almost every way...he had almost 100 winners :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: and still lost.
my only concern from looking at the stats quickly was that nadal didn't do a good enough job converting on break opportunities :(. he has to pull that together for the final because federer isn't going to give him as many chances as verdasco did. although on the flip side, he needs to keep doing what he's doing with his serve, first serve percentage was high and he didn't give up too many breaks (at least that's what I saw mid-way in the 5th).
rafa knows how to beat roger and he not only wants to win but i feel he needs to win a major on hardcourt...US Open might be tougher with the grind leading up to it. rafael's fitness will keep him in this match and come Sunday I think we'll see a hard fight from both players.
although a huge fan of Nadal's I think roger might edge him out a bit but it won't be a thrashing or anything of the sort. if rafa can pull off a victory I'm going to do a happy dance with a couple fist pumps in my living room.
on the women's side, if dinara beats serena I'll be doing the same thing Saturday although the chances of that happening are slim but looking forward to some quality tennis. that would be awesome though for safina to equal at least one of her brother's successes in tennis in his last year of competitive tennis. ugh i'm too into this!
this weekend is going be fan-bloody-tastic

I personally like aggressive baseliners/all-court players not stand-5 ft behind the baseline grinders like Nadal. I will throw up if Nadal wins a hardcourt major.

I have the utmost respect for Fernando Verdasco at this point. I'm excited to see him play in 2009.

same...
but the longer I play tennis and watch Nadal, I began to appreciate Nadal's style more and more. He does some pretty hard/wicked stuff sometimes.

This was a visually pleasing point. Good for replays, thats about it.
I thought the point that gave Nadal set-point in the second set was the best point of the game/tournament. It was technically and visually spectacular. One of the best points of all time in my book.

what a waste of time (and money for the spectators) this morning was.

oh well. At least Safina attended Serena's final. That's all I can say. :wtf:
