money

got into an interesting "what if" conversation (yes we were stoned:p) with the boyfriend the other night about how the world would be if money were just taken out of the equation.

i mean really it's the root of all evil. things that we need for basic survival cost money like healthcare and food, etc... isn't that ed?

this entire world is based on nothing but money and greed. every single little last thing in this world revolves around it.

anyway just wanted to share that. our convo got a little deeper than that though...like how we could all survive on trade and how or bodies were made to be able to survive off the earth but yet look at all this artificial we all put into our bodies, which is probably the cause of all the diseases in this world and mental illnesses. pregnant women should only eat nutritious things and if they all did that, everyone would be healthier, bla bla bla

Money just makes it more convenient to trade stuff. It seems to me you're really asking something more like, "What if everyone's needs were provided for automatically, so people could just do whatever they wanted and still not starve?"

if money did not exist, humans would rely on a 'barter' system, an exchange system were goods and services would be acquired by transferring one item or service for another of equal or greater value. This proves inefficient, people would complain about inequality, customers would not be satisfied and it would create a whole mess.
Money, on the other hand, has the ability to allow more satisfactory transactions between buyers and seller in an economic system.

Money improves a good or service, basic or not (a need or a want) so that the customer will be satisfied with the service or good they inquired. Without money a good would never improve (e.g: health care).

+1. No society has ever been completely self-sufficient, in the sense that trade is crucial to life - it's been this way since pre-history, and the advent of currency just made it a lot easier for people to trade.

Can you imagine how inconvenient it would be to buy a plane ticket with cows? Paper money just makes everything a whole lot easier.

As for greed being the root of all evils, it isn't. It is often a despicable emotion, but this is far from being the only cause behind the harm humans can inflict on others, and it's also far from being always negative (greed can, paradoxically, help you achieve things you would otherwise lack the motivation to).

If you look to money for true happiness, you will never find it.
Slylee
true but a lot of things that cost money make me happy. like good food and travelling and smoking a j and watchng tv on my big lcd screen lol going to bed in a nice comfy bed with nice sheets and a downfeather comforter, etc...

i guess my main point is that really, it's the luck of the draw when it comes to the life you are born into and opportunity, etc... the conversation was more like, "why can't we ALL be equal and be able to do what the next guy can". think about those poor girls born in parts of africa where their vaginas are sewed shut and they are raped and tormented and die before the age of 30:wtf: i mean that's it for them...that's their whole life in a nutshell. i guess the convo was all over the place now that i think about it lol

but what if someone's true happiness is found in money?

If you live your life in the pursuit of money, then I don't believe you're living at all.
