Don't bother... the movie was decent but what makes the book so great is the depth of the character development, which the movie just guts in order to boil the book down into a 2 hour run time movie. You'll be incredibly disappointed with the movie despite Morgan Freeman.

Yeah, I imagine that Doc and Peekay in particular don't translate well to a shortened form. The book develops slowly, but that's part of what makes it so rich, in my opinion. I'm still interested in seeing it, but my expectations aren't terribly high.

Yeah, the movie condenses the entire first half of the book into about 20-30 minutes then goes on to focus almost exclusively on his private school boxing days. Morgan Freeman is great as Geel Piet though.

Damn - the train ride and the prison stuff were the best parts. :(

Great book - really hard to follow even in English, but totally worth it.

Just started on these two:

I'm on a "slumming it in the city" bent I guess. I just finished, "Service Included"--another one that's interesting if you're into the New York City restaurant world, or just fancy restaurants in general.

Just finished Anna Karenina and now reading Banana Yoshimoto's N.P.
