I think it's OK to say "justified." Your "friend" is using her behavior as a defense mechanism for her current problems. Torturing a cat is not an acceptable (justifiable) defense mechanism for anything.
As you said though, it's probably not a big deal how it's worded though. Acting bizarre because you're upset but not hurting anyone or anything by doing so is usually seen as acceptable. Hurting yourself or someone else for just about any reason generally isn't. |

Considering I don't like kids, yes! My cats are awesome: they only bother me when they want food, and don't eat too much.
They're not making me stay in on Saturday because I can't find a sitter, buy them outrageously expensive outfits they'll grow out of in a week, don't want every new piece of plastic contraption they'll be interested in for a few days.
They want my couch and the cardboard box they like to hide in. |

I'm not going to have 4398282094832 cats (actually, I didn't even want the 3rd cat I have and have been looking for a home for her). I don't like them THAT much, but I like them better than children.
Kids have grubby hands, and use your clothes to rub their snotty noses on, and their cries are like...nails on a chalk board combined with an icy blast of Siberian air, they kill your sex and social life.
I could go on, but you get the idea. |
