Is it true that they are going to put Dusty down? Rumors are floating around 4Chan that Dusty won't be adopted out because he's too old and the long-term abuse he's suffered by this kid isn't reversible.

I doubt it. If that happened it would be a PR nightmare for whatever organization decided to do it. There's also some girl who started a facebook group for Dusty that's been in contact with the shelter where the cat is being held. She's said nothing about it, and I'd imagine that she would have heard something. I just don't see how they could euthanize such a famous cat at this point. There's probably a list 1,000 people long who would adopt the cat no matter how bad of shape it's in.
I do agree that the parents probably knew about the animal abuse. They didn't necessarily have anything to do with it directly, but probably let it go on or thought it was "cute." You could tell by the video that the cat had years of abuse under its belt, and I doubt the parents could possibly miss that. Unless they're clueless, which could be a possibility considering the "quality" of their offspring. |

How they thought it was 'cute' is beyond me. How about I beat the ever living out of their spawn because I think its cute?
I would adopt Dusty if I had the chance. I'd make him fat and happy. My oldest cat (the Norwegian Forest Cat) was a victim of abuse for the first year of his life; you would never be able to tell now. He's a show off and loves everyone. |

I hope they get persecuted by PETA (Who are tards also, but whatever) and the local animal authority so that they at least learn something from this. |

No, I don't. We've got a fairly sophisticated judicial system, in which the punishments fit the crime quite well (I'm saying that as a Westerner, which I think I am, I'm not American :p). Wouldn't it be better for society if this kid, instead of being beaten senseless, were reintegrated, and/or helped society even against his will? (Community Service)

Even if they want to adopt the cat, how can you be so sure they won't have it put down? The people at the shelter probably has more experience with damaged cats than cat people united on facebook...

It's only a guess, but assuming she has been in contact with the person running the place, I'd guess she'd probably have more insight into the matter than a bunch of /b/rothers. I also don't doubt the judgment of someone who works with cats as to whether it ultimately needs to be put down. However, we're going off of the word of 4chan right now, not that of anyone credible. If someone does come forward and gives some reasons as to why it might need to be put down and has some weight behind what they say I'll listen. Again though, right now we have "rumors" coming from 4chan which is pretty much worthless. |
