I love the middle-eastern/US centric view on this forum... :p

The official PDD thread on North Korea is here:

Isn't it obvious that North Korea is merely testing a long-range missile here, and not some satellite launch?
North Korean regime is out of touch with reality. 1950s Stalinist regime, still kickin' ... a time warp into the past. |

Lil' Kim is really pissing off a lot of people with this pseudo missile test.
Yes, they are launching some half-assed satellite, but probably it's a guise for testing a missile with payload.
Although, lots of countries test rockets/weapons etc. so if done safely, why shouldn't North Korea? [/Devil's advocate]
Has anyone reported on the planned trajectory of this thing yet? I think that would be more telling in terms of who's security would be most at risk. |

we should shoot down the rocket to call NK's bluff. This is the perfect opportunity to marginalize the man even more. (Obviously with the consent of SK and Japan). Kim couldn't seriously want to wage war against Japan, SK, and the US. Men like him are in self-preservation mode their entire lives. He must know that any aggression would result in his demise. |

^ Agreed. The guy is a ing nutjob.
I'm not sure if it's necessarily any foreign nations call to arbitrarily shoot the thing down on suspicions though. That's why I was more curious about the tragectory. Also, if they do actually launch their version of Sputnik, I guess everyone's suspicions (about this launch) would be proven unfounded.
Don't get me wrong, anything that looks like a rocket on the pad should be monitored and tracked hard core, and shot down if their flight path looks even remotely hostile.
I can't see him signing the death warrants of his own people and what infrastructure exists by an outright attack on any neighbouring nation. But hey, nobody ever accused him of being rational and level-headed either. |

that's a good point. I'm very skeptical, as are just about every other person on earth, this has no military purpose given the country can't even feed its own population.

he may not be rational, but i'm sure he enjoys his position of power. He must be rational enough to realize his regime (and likely him personally) wouldn't survive an attack on Japan or SK. |

I'm seriously skeptical too, I'm just not sure where skepticism should lead to preemptive action based on suspicions and skepticism. I agree that this has no real use to the people at all though. It's solely for show, whether it's military or not.

Exactly. He likes his power and is walking a fine line between flaunting it to amaze his own people and wag his dick at his neighbours, and outright taunting people with the uncertainty of "what might crazy 'Lil Kim do?!". He's a complete attention whore, with a grip on an impoverished nation. I don't actually think he's attack anyone. I think he gets off on prank-calling them though. Just to keep people paying attention to him.
I wonder if there's any chance of a "people's revolution" led by elements of the army and the unfed masses overthrowing this guy? |

i agree, however, sometimes I think people need a reminder of what they could potentially face if they actually cross that line. With people line him, give him an inch and he'll take a foot. If in his mind he thinks he openly got away with testing a ballistic missile system, he might take a more aggressive step next time.

I don't know much about NK, but i've read that he treats his military commanders very well, and the soldiers are well fed. He realizes that in order to keep control he needs to keep his military and its leaders happy. As a result, a revolution including elements of the military is unlikely. |

| they know that fighting a war against the US would see the US spending more time handing out goody bags of food than actual fighting which would leave them to defend themselves against the kawasakis and their weak counterparts. i believe china would not be too happy if the US engaged in a war so close and would definitely have a say. it wouldn't simply be NK vs the world. this 'war' would also weaken any efforts for zionists to control the middle east further weakening the US security both at home and abroad. |

Well nK already said its going to fly OVER Japan, and that the first stage will fall somewhere very close to the Western Japanese coast (within 75 miles).
The US and Japan have Aegis equipped guided missile cruisers in the Sea of Japan and Japan has PAC-3 systems on the coast and clustered around the Tokyo area. |

Just blast the missile out of the sky with one of these babies in its inaugural launch with Nut-Job-Kim there and maybe, just maybe he'll recognize how he'd be swatted like a fly with Buick should he try anything funny...
