It's true. They did get what was coming to them. People who download stuff illegally are taking a risk. Sometimes you get caught, other times you don't. That's why there is a risk involved.

Are you serious? You can't take ONE guess as to what it could possibly be? Don't you have a Master's degree dude? |

This is a funny situation. On the one hand, they did facilitate sharing copyright material. On the other hand, in most countries, you cannot convict somebody for a crime, if somebody else is using your system for a crime. The same was said for phone companies, and drug dealers. Would you hold the phone company at fault because drug dealers were using their lines to facilitate sales?
The torrent freak article is right, this is going to open a whole new can of worms and just slow broadband penetration. It is already happening here. Instead of breaking down barriers, and making systems more open, we are moving backwards. |

By the looks of it is has to do with downloading pirated material. But there's nothing wrong in asking what it was. I don't know if it's some sort of thing like Napster or if it was set up completely differently...which is why I asked  |

No worries :) I should have specified. Once Kazaa started charging, I completely stopped downloading anything, unless it was a set from TA. |

i don't think you understand the idea of pirate bay.
these guys themselves don't actually have any servers or anything offering free stuff to download. they are not the ones that record or steal the material. they aren't even the ones that download it. they just run a site where people happen to share files and it's not like they control what files are shared. they don't even know what files are being shared technically. |

suing the founders of Pirate Bay is not the way to stop piracy and it shows that the courts and justice system doesn't understand what the internet is about. |

Whether they know what's being shared or not isn't the issue. Any reasonable and prudent person would know that copyrighted material could be shared on a website such as this. They took no measures to prevent or stop this from happening. |
