You've never gone anywhere that was giving out free stuff when normally you would not go there (for example, Jack in the Box giving away from curly fries on a particular day)?

I never said my friends ONLY went for the raffle. If some of my friends are borderline about going to Circus (because it is a long drive or whatever), the raffle is sometimes enough to tip them toward going. I'm sure if the raffle was removed, a significant percentage of people would decide not to go to Circus. I don't know how big that percentage is, but it's certainly greater than 0%.

Last week, I played some tech-house, progressive house, and electro house that people seemed to rock out to. Circus is mostly a trance club and that's what people seem to enjoy there so that's why some nights we have played trance. On some nights, you have to because the crowd is so obsessed with trance. The past few weeks we have been playing mostly tech-house, techno, and electro house. Joseph Mordeno has been playing mostly progressive house lately and last week it was a tech-house set. DJ Fraud closed it out with some electro house. The artists I enjoy playing right now are Alex Kenji, Paul Thomas, and new Wolfgang Gartner (NOT ELECTRO) stuff which are on the hard, funky, progressive, tech-house tip. You might call it rolling, hands up, tech-house. That's what I will be playing this weekend.

thats a really good sound. and if Josh Hartley is the guy who opened up for DG, than he pulled off a good set. much better (imo) than DG.

not really. it's like saying someone's giving free and you'll be the first in line. not that JITB is crap. i sometimes buy my meals there.

as a promoter myself, i'd rather have less people enjoying the music with friends than a room full who aren't enjoying themselves. it doesn't build the night. there's no long term goal.

rather than giving money away, reinvest it on a sound guy & an awesome line-up. that will attract the crowd who enjoys the music.

I know someone that goes to a club just for the carne asada quesadillas. ;)

NO! I live 1 block from a JITB and work a skip, jump, & a hop from a Carl's Jr. and still wouldn't go for a FREEBIE. I go because I want to and because I feel like eating something from their menu.

:p

We both agree on this.

Using the $1000 to improve Circus' sound and line-up may reduce attendance a little in the short term, but in the long term it could make Circus a lot more money and greatly improve the venue.

No offense was taken. No need to apologize. :toocool:

And if people leave right after the raffle, whats the point of them being there? Just bodies to fill the place up? Did Circus make even a penny off them? Did they even buy 1 drink or did they show up at 11:29 and leave at 12:01?

And I hate the stopping of the music too. You don't do that at EDM events. It brings everything to a stop. At it pulls everyone from out of the other rooms. Not really fair to the DJs playing in those rooms.

The long lines at Denny's during its free breakfast promotion, Baskin Robbins during its 31 cents scoop promotion, etc... show that a lot of people are willing to jump through hoops to get a freebie.

Just something Circus should keep in mind if it decides to get rid of some of its freebies.

I'm sure that a certain small fraction of people left after midnight, but most people stayed. It was more crowded at 1am than at midnight.

I doubt more than a tiny percentage of people come JUST for the raffle, but the raffle might be just enough enticement to get them out to Circus.

i say replace the $1k raffle with something like 6~8 free drink tickets, and the moochie ppl will still come :)

Haha... they can spice things up by only allowing the free drinks to be given out before 11pm. People will be walking around the club with multiple beers for a couple hours.

I heart Circus sooo much. Where else can you get such awesome freebies in such a nice environment?

Yeah, Josh played right before Donald Glaude. He said that he also played right after him too. Josh is a great guy and DJ. I've known him since 2001. He's just starting break out right now and play some really cool shows.
