It had been a while since I had been to Avalon but we went to After Hour after JOOP at Circus and was suprised by the sound difference. I will have to agree. Avalon sounded great. But very, very loud as well. |
I have walked out of two clubs for making my ears hurt even while wearing 32db NRR HEAROS: Avalon and more recently, Circus. Avalon was for Nick Warren and Circus was for Matt Darey and Matt Cerf/Jaren. I've been to Circus probably a hundred times, and it's only recently come up on my list of clubs with extremely unsafe volume!
Not getting overly focused on the sound pressure levels since it's a guess right now anyway, many TA's have complained about Circus being too loud. I have not seen even one post asking that the volume be turned up. Considering that people's hearing is being destroyed here, what's the right thing to do? |

If it's too loud... you're too old ;) :D
I really haven't noticed the sound at Circus being too loud. I have noticed the EQing could use some adjustments, but if you are not standing right in front of the speakers, the sound could even be turned up a bit. Granted, I am not in the room for extended periods of time, but I usually check out the music from the center of the room and the sound has been very tolerable as far as volume is concerned. I think there could be a little bit more bass. The sound has been very high on the treble and mid-frequency tip. It could be that the system is tuned to a mid-range or high-end frequency which is fatiguing your ears. |

| First, it's Circus, now it's Avalon too. It sounds more like a personal problem to me. Just kidding ;) Your hearing is important to me and I hope the problem gets resolved. I still think it is an EQ problem not the actual volume of the sound in the club. Bad EQing can be very annoying. |

Also want to add that maybe it was just me but CIRCUS was extra loud last night. Since I sometimes during the set go condom-less (ie without earplugs), I have to say my left ear suffered a bit. Does the sound-system really have to be that loud? Tell me : if we knock it down a few notches, do you think people would dance less? Cause I certainly wouldn't even notice, I think I would dance more :thepirate |

My friends and I thought that the music was ridiculously loud in the main room tonight. It was painful at times. |

the openers need to learn when to turn up the volume.
if the room is empty there is NO. REASON. to max out the sound. it's too ing loud.
you need to only turn it up when there are people in the room (people are the best (or worst depending on how you look at it) insulator/dampener for sound, so when there are a lot of people it will sound quieter
most DJs dont have any audio engineering education or understanding :( |

I agree the announcer for the raffle was way too LOUD!!!! There is really no reason to get OG with it and scream!
The sound over all was better then it was for Solarstone. Think having more people in the club helps with that.
I enjoyed Peit's set. Had me dancing the whole time. :) It was also nice seeing all the support for him.
Question... when will the hip-hop stop in the loft??? Went up around 1:30 for my last drink and there good trance playing. Also it is too loud up there too! |

ok. would you guys rather have a good sound engineer @ circus or get in free and have a chance to win $1000?
i just don't want anybody complaining here that they can't get anymore freebies @ circus once they've finally employed a sound guy for the whole club. |

This is kinda like asking if an airport can due without its air traffic controller to offer lower ticket prices...were talking human safety here!
If someone can let me know the avg salary of a qualified sound engineer, I'll do the math though. I don't think it's an either/or proposition. :) |

seriously, people on TA do complain (i am one of them). but if they fix the sound and have to invest more money, than people need to quit hating on having to pay. everyone's gotta pay sometimes. its a business that each venue tries to run. |
