Yeah, but that's irrelevant, remember, because everybody uses software alone and never has to get any sound from external sources into the computer, right?
 |
basically a sound card does turn an analogue signal into digital is true. People who only use software won't need it. |

Hey, someone comes out of the bog with something smart. And its my contention that most people use software pretty much exclusively. |

But your just guessing that. You don't know that is the case. I do not recall any study done that provides evidence to that claim. But based on how things actually work, its not inconceivable that you or I are correct. Of course, we can't both be correct.
Most producers probably use a laptop as their DAW. And I have never heard of laptop sound devices that were not on board the mother board.
|
are you kidding ? Have you ever heard of usb or firewire ? Most producers using a laptop are not using their onboard sound. But that isn't the point.
And you are right, there is no way to know for sure but I have yet to meet a serious producer in any genre that still uses a realtek sound card with a latency of 2048. Am i just lucky ? |

What, I wasn't talking to you. |

:wtf:
Do you even know what "latency" means? Quick, go look it up on Wikipedia so you don't embarrass yourself! Then think about what you're implying when you say high latency is "better," LOL. |

Ive yet to meet a serious producer who doesn't use high latency. I guess I am lucky also? Most of the producers I know also don't use hardware, coincidence?

Give sounds more time to process via high latency? Yes, higher is better.
Popping in the sound occurs because your giving the sound card less time than it needs to process the sounds, aka, low latency.
You should learn the basics before you speak. |

| if using software only latency isnt an issue when it comes to sound QUALITY! my god not again.... more latency will decrease the use of CPU/RAM and therefore will help you being able to add more crap in your track making it sound bad. so we can really say more latency - bad sound, beacuse of you! |

this has nothing to do with the actual soundquality, its like saying a movie is bad beacuse its streams badly on your ty internet-connection. |

That is what I have always said. Its nice you finally got around to admitting it, rather than trying to argue.

Fine, DAC quality. You can argue semantics all you want. |

I never said that. Nor implied it.
DAC and Latency are the same issue here. How well the DAC is depends on the latency. High latency is obviously better. |
your logic is flawed. On every single soundcard made in the last 5 years(except your on board realtek) , you really don't gain anything by going above 512. It isn't better because you would gain something if it was. You must be the only person on the planet using 2048. |

can you share some names and the latencies they are using ? |
