nah sorry, even with a kick ass setup, I would still go to the theatre.

Actually not being able to pause adds alot to the experience... you can get easily immersed at the theatre and forget about everything else.

Very good point.... and sex in the theatre is more thrilling than on the couch too.

hmm interesting question.

I have a 52" Samsung 7-series, blu-ray, plus a 6.1 surround (with audessey multeq,.... not box system)...and while it does kick ass, there is just something about watching a movie at the theater.

So to me the theater still #1

I entered the HD market a couple years ago and haven't gone back!

But don't forget, you need to have a awesome sound system that can support true HD compressions!

Visual beauty is only the half of it...

i am pretty tone deaf so the sound doesn't make that much difference for me. i watch tv at the lowest possible sound level, i hate the blaring . but if i get a sound system it will be that nice directional sound that is pointed perfectly at your head on the couch. :) can't wait for that.

the theatre is loud, but the quality of sound in a good home theatre cant be touched. everything is so much cleaner and clearer in my living room than in any theatre ive been to.

the other cool thing about home is that youre always sitting in the sweet spot, whereas with a theatre you might be too close to one wall or the other, or the back wall, and that throws off the whole surround soundfield

well, i wanna come over. lol.

the funniest thing is that we used to have this tv that was like 27'. i was talked into this giant 52' one that i thought for sure would be toooooo big but now it looks small.

You know, I have a great set up with a room specifically based around movie viewing. However, for all the big events, I still head out to the theatre. I actually enjoy the ambience of strangers around me, all reacting to specific moments of cinematic greatness. For me, it's a complete experience - not simply based around the media I'm taking in.

First run action packed movies are meant to be watched on the big screen with an audience and that's just the way it is suppose to be. I'll see them again on blu-ray and a home video environment for my second or third viewings, but you'd never catch me seeing this summer's blockbusters such as Transformers, Star Trek or Terminator Salvation on blu-ray for my first viewing. :o

If you're downtown you can't beat the specifications of the AMC at Yonge/Dundas:

From the AMC website for Yonge/Dundas:

AMC Yonge & Dundas exclusively offers the Enhanced Theatre Experience for all performances in Auditorium #7. ETX features a 20% larger floor-to-ceiling screen, 11-channel surround sound with 57,000 watts of power, and 8.8 million pixels providing 4X the resolution of HD.
