In terms of visual and auditory sensations, The Dark Knight on IMAX = best movie-going experience I've had :)

i dont believe the 8000 can match the real world contrast or black level of the sony xbr 8. the samsung posts higher dynamic contrast numbers, but those only consider a full white to full black test, and are basically useless in the real world.

put the xbr8 next to the 8000 in a darkened room playing the same movie and i think youll see that the xbr8 is a much better set. if there was ever any endorsement of it as a proper display device its that the LCD fanboys on various forums complain that its picture is "soft and washed out". those are the same things people who want SUPER DUPER BRIGHT PUNCHY unnatural colours say about plasmas, and it is both a qualitative and quantitative fact that a top of the line plasma offers superior performance to a top of the line LCD any day of week..

we did a review of the xbr8 and it still is the best looking lcd i have ever seen, even though it failed several tests on the HQV test disc...

any pioneer plasma made in the last 2 or so years will absolutely crush any lcd or led tv you can name in every category that matters (unless you live in a greenhouse with no curtains)

240hz will do nothing to improve the picture quality (brightness, sharpness, contrast ratio). Hell, mathematically, it doesn't even make sense to go beyond 120hz.

But it's great for marketing

Those Kuro's are nice...

yeah a pioneer elite in pure mode that has been properly calibrated is as close to perfect of a display that is available today and probably will be for god only knows how long now that they're done making them....nothing around now even comes close. OLED in theory will be able to demolish plasma, but the early sets ive seen are stupid expensive and have serious uniformity problems..in a few years when the kinks have been ironed out and the price comes down..only then will someone topple the current kuro displays

i picture todays elites being like original urei mixers in a few years...sought out by those who know because nothing newer and "better" has yet to surpass it..

Backlight all the way up, contrast all the way up, brightness 50%. This will of course lead to your backlight burning out faster, but they are decently cheap to replace.

BTW - for all the Pioneer talk. They stopped producing their own panels earlier this year, and are not in a joint venture with somebody else (essentially outsourcing). I have not seen any of their panels since the move, and am curious as to how it has effected their performance.
