Yeah, if you look at the early years of TA, it seems like proper grammar and spelling were the exception rather than the rule. |

But then came Mr.Mystery and with him came the dark age. |

i hate when english is the one and only language people can use and they can't even do that properly
mad props to the people who use english as their second language and can use it better than the people who have used it their entire lives
funny enough, i was just thinking about this the other day |

Apparently the 'golden age' didn't last for very long, then. |

Googooly single handedly set back the already shaky view of Brits back a further 200 years.
I'm not sure where I stand though, English being my first language, but having grown up in SA.
I did show someone this thread yesterday, and she loved col's response. And he was British too. :) |

Hal and System-J posted poems? :wtf: |
Read that as 'beautiful usage of english language'. :p
And yeah, Hal [sometimes] makes a 'forum post' look like a separate literary genre. |

To be fair though, that is one of the most awesome and funny responses you could ever hope for. |

Sorry for the late bump.

You should 'write what you want' in English. If it's not perfect, you may be corrected, and your English will only get better as a result :) |
Exactly. It's really odd that a lot of people seem to be very offended if someone corrects them. But personally, I hope that every little typo I make will be corrected. If I'd never be corrected, I'd never learn where I went wrong. All about improving, as you said yourself.
How do you peeps feel about being corrected? Do you feel like the person who did it is a nazi, or just trying to help? |

Hard to say, since I've never tried to converse online in another language.
That said, I'm sure I make plenty of dumb mistakes with my English grammar, and would probably make heaps of spelling errors too, if it weren't for the wonders of Firefox spell-checker :p (Which doesn't seem to be functioning in Win7 for some reason....)
I'm not offended at all if someone corrects me, it's more like a "duh, I should have noticed that" moment. |
