Hahah! It's so true. When I was probably 9 years old, we went to Florida and drove through Kentucky. When we stopped for dinner I heard these gentleman speaking and I asked my mom "What language are they speaking?" She replied "English". I argued and said "THAT'S NOT ENGLISH!". I didn't believe her, but sure enough, I discovered later on that they were in fact speaking English.

Everything on this board is more or less discussed in English, as we all know. But many (most?) of us do not have English as our mother tongue. Over the years I have noticed just how much this affects my output. I mean, if I would post in Finnish, the length of my average post would probably be twice as long. And I feel that there is so much I have to leave unsaid, simply because I don't know how to say it.

I guess the people who have English as their own language are sort of excluded from this thread. But if anyone of you English speakers post on a non-English forum, you might have the same situation?

Does anyone of you feel the same way? Or do you just write it down as good as you can, and let it end up looking like a post by nachos? :p

Yeah I feel the same way, I can't express myself to the fullest in english:[ and that sucks

i have this problem sometimes with my bf. his native tongue is quebcois (french canadian) and sometiems if we're having a talk or even a small argument, he'll say things and i'm like, "WHAT? " and he gets frustrated like, "no wait that's not what i mean. i wish you could understand french" :stongue:

Instruct him to use simple, to-the-point instructions like "perform oral sex on me" or "suck on my penis" rather than trying to understand strange American colloquialisms such as "give me head" or "slob on my knob" which may be confusing.

Weirdly enough, I've recently had a dream that was completely in English. :wtf:

All the Scandinavians I have met on TA are the best English speakers I have ever known.

It amazes me that you guys would feel self-conscious about your English abilities. I suck at English and it is my mother tongue.

Then again I have problems with the rules involved. I find them stupid and arbitrary and that you do not need to follow a lot of them to get messages across a lot quicker and more concise.

Sometimes this annoys the hell out of me... Especially when it's about scientific stuff that I would have knowledge off, but the terms are different and can't just bring it as I would in Finnish...

lol no we got that part of communicating down pat. it's the more serious like when he pisses me off or something and he's trying to explain himself and ends up making it worse.
