Your debate and facts are very objective. Why? Because I've heard it a billion times before when a music fan calls their generation and preferred era of music the "best ever". All kinds of music artists listed to back their statements up. Just like your grandfather still thinks that 60s swing is better than anything that came out since then. If you were born in the 60's, then you're probably a big 80's (rock) fan, and will keep saying that music since then has deteriorated. Heck, in that case you should be stating that a lot of music today has been sampled and ripped off from original 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's works (thats a heck of a better argument if you have some sounds/links/videos to back it up, too) - just because the music is from 2009 and not from 2008 it doesn't mean its inferior or worse. Why? Because many people listen to it. A few people thinking their taste is better than of millions of people out there - what kind of debate is that?
The new generation of folks look at 2009 as their generation of music, oh well so be it. Quite frankly, I think it gives trance music new life, new fans, more interest, and more opportunities to introduce them to earlier trance music - which many will probably like if you try to be reasonable with them. I learned that from my own experience. Locals and friends come to me all the time to make them CDs because I dont ridicule their so-called "inferior" tastes, and they find what I have to say interesting.
You gotta be a bit more rational. |

Maybe you should've first read their little argument and then come show off your psuedo-intelligence. That idiot said that (mainstream (probably trance)) music of today is more complex, more creative, and clearly better than anything in the past. It would be perfectly fine if he wrote that he likes music of today more than music of the past, be he made a pretty strong statement, so naturally JBJ politely (some people were not so polite as he was) asked him to explain and back up his claim. The fact that he avoided his challenge several times (but continued to trash talk about completely irrelevant stuff) just supports the collective claim that he's a fool which shouldn't be taken seriously by anyone.
I don't think that any of us has a problem with noobs who are just listening and discussing their music here, but when they start to get smart and laud what they listen to as best damn thing since sliced bread, of course we're gonna start to ask some questions.
And your claim about people calling music of their generation as best ever is a complete bull. Those are simple and closed minded people who are affraid of new things. I'm sure that every music lover with refined taste here has no problem with music of today and even music of before we were born, but that music has to be interesting and have some substance and novelty to it. To assume that we don't like new music because we were born in the 80's is completely moronic. |

You've got a point there, too. I didn't go through all the pages, I'm sure there's not much of a point. Everyone should drop the attitudes, I suppose. I would add that some of the persons bashing the veteran members are displaying a bit of hypocrisy on their part, too.
I personally don't think there's "inferior" or "superior" music out there, even the Indian bamboo and clapping music is very creative. Its all about preferences. "I like this more than that", "I prefer this over that" is how it should be. Its all music. Heck, calling something as primitive or inferior is a very backward trend, something that dumb people used to label different cultures, skin colours, sex, and language in a similar way. |

Talented djs or producers are spending their time doing what they are good at. The people that post here the most often are talented at making other people feel like an idiot.
Its a similiar case with most forums, but from my view it seems like TA is exponentially worse than other forums. Probably because this place has higher traffic? Who knows.
So, if you are a highly active debater here, give yourself a pat on the back, you found something you're good at! Wear a t shirt or something that says "i pwn people on the internet". |

Why are you taking this to extremes? Who is here just to make other people feel like an idiot? I don't think you can list even 5 users who are here primarily for bashing other people, not for music (and related) discussion. |

Sorry, when did I say that more recent music is worse? Granted, I've stated plenty of times my distaste for current trends in some genres of dance music, but that doesn't mean I don't find plenty of other stuff to love from today. If someone makes a very strong claim, like saying today's popular music is "more complex, more creative, and clearly better than anything in the past," it seems proper to ask him for a defense of it, don't you agree? And asking for such a defense doesn't imply, as you seem to think, that I believe the opposite extreme -- that today's music is always worse than everything in the past, or that popular stuff can never be good.
