No, and it's a pretty long walk. That's why they say ride your bike. If I'm understanding correctly where they're located, it's at least a 20 minute bike ride from Cherry Beach.

OK, so it seems I was incorrect about this. It's actually nowhere near the spit, it appears to be a 5-10 minute walk along the path from the Cherry Beach parking lot.

Cons: No sand or lake
Pros: Not having to surgically remove black boogers the next morning

So I guess park the car at Cherry and walk to the new spot?

I could use the exercise... :)

Call me a fatalist, but I think this more "out of the way" location will only further encourage disruptive behavior.

The other location was along a common and frequently used footpath/beachpath which probably kept people in line (somewhat). Security or not, less perceived supervision (via the public, or police, or...) means more abuse.

Cross our fingers people smarten up before the privilege is lost.

I thought about this too when I first got the message and I do think it is a real possibility. I do think the ease of which the party could be found made it more accessible to a greater number of people (which was a good thing). The other solution would have been to move it right onto the main beach out in the open and police it more which I would have been fine with. However, I don't think a city like Toronto would ever let that happen.

As Promise said in their letter what was meant to be a chill afternoon/evening after party has often developed into the main party for many people. My biggest fear is that many people in Toronto will never learn that there SHOULD be a big difference between a daytime outdoor party and a nighttime club party. Daytime parties should not be about getting wasted and ed up. People should be able to bring their kids, pets, hell even their parents to enjoy something unique and different in our city.

I'm hoping that since it will be probably more than a KM walk from the parking lot most of the undesirables will get lost of give up.

As I understood it, the change in location was just to deal with the overcrowding due to (apparently) people walking in off the street, so to speak. The other issue - the disruptive behaviour - is why they are hiring security and trying to clamp down on alcohol.

I actually doubt that the new location will help at all toward weeding out so-called undesirables; most of them are coming from clubs or after-parties in the entertainment district anyway, so clearly they know about the Promise/Platform parties and didn't just randomly end up on Cherry Beach before. And when you're wasted/sketchy you're more than willing to walk long distances.

So I'm assuming many of yall got this message too from David at Promise.

Huh, sounds like circumstances are necessitating a change in the ways of Cherry Beach Sundays again...

Personally, I'm very sad to see it leave the beach (I've never liked it more than where it is current RIGHT ON the actual beach in the sand!) and the coming strict enforcement of a NO-alcohol (PERIOD!) policy... though I can understand and see why these changes must happen if we want to preserve and continue to enjoy what we've had at Cherry Beach on Sundays all these years...

Tell the damn city to get back to work and start worrying about real issues other than a bunch of people having fun and drinking a bit of booze. What a whack job city this is!
