My Tuesday night drumming circles have been threatened as well.
It's really unfortunate that the odd one or two people have the potential to ruin this fun for the rest of us.
the complaints to the police aren't even during the alotted times of the party.
Most complaints have been from 11pm-3am.
i think the only people ruining it are the cops. F em.
Whatever happened to our sense of rebellion? Are we that controlled as a society now that we accept this kind of harrassment?

From the perspective of the police though, if those event's were not there to begin with, there wouldn't be those people lingering around at 11pm once they have shut down.
Well ya, exactly. And this reminds me of an old saying... live and let live. And who the hell lives close enough to Cherry Beach to hear people down there at 3 am?
I would be interested in seeing the police reports as to who was complaining, if these people they were complaining about were actually at the party. They could very well just be in that area making noise @ 3 in the morning and it gets blamed on Cherry Beach Parties.

No but you can have renegade parties with look outs and bolt at the first sign of trouble instead of letting the city dictate everything

ya, but there is so much equipment. They wouldn't be able to bolt. And if they were caught, massive fines.

I dunno, Promise CB Sundays where never about being renegade or defiant with me - just a chill way to spend the afternoon on a nice weekend.
If you're looking for 'illegal' outdoor parties - they still go on.
I think part of the problem though is face book / social networking. It's too easy to get the word out about locations / directions and the sizes they turn into is what makes them harder to pull off.
Attracting 50-100 or so people to an undisclosed location and keeping things on the down-low is one thing, pulling it off when 2x or 3x that number turns up is another.

not just specifically face book - but social networking in general makes it far easier to get the word out about 'illegal' parties, and the easier the word spreads - the easier it is for the police to learn the exact details of the party, and easier for a larger group of people to learn about it and attract a crowd large enough that warrents getting it busted up.
I used to go to allot of CB over-night parties when I first started going out - when the numbers were smaller the police rarely turned up, and when they did - they usually left without shutting things down.
When the numbers started to increase, the police showed up more often, and parties got shut down more often.

lol.
i now know why cherry beach became so busy. i was just reading my Toronto Life. The August issue. They have their annual "Best of the City" special and low and behold Cherry Beach parties and www.ilovepromise.com is listed as one of the best things to do for fun.
The write up is:
"FREE DANCING
Cherry Beach
Sand dancing anyone? Funk, house, techno, reggae and hip hop are the preferred beats at Cherry Beach Sundays, an afternoon party run by event promoters David McLeod and Irving Shaw. A rotating list of DJs and a motley crew of acrobats and fire breathers entertain blissed-out dogs and Frisbee types, toddlers and their ex-raver parents. Free, 3-11 p.m., June through Labour Day."
