I think part of the rational is that if you pay them higher wages they are less inclined to steal.... looks like that worked out just about as well as the Sheppard subway. |
they tried that with police in mexico.... worked well there too LOL |

I can do both:) I always keep watch of the road and talk at the same time. Besides by the time I'm done talking with them their not starngers anymore. I don't know how many ppl i have met on the bus and now have on f/b. Now these ppl are usually my regulars who take my bus everyday. But ppl really do appriciate having a friendly driver, and its makes life less stressful driving too. |
Iain that wasn't my point - you should be paying attention to the road while you're driving, you're responsible for the safety of those onboard, not for their entertaiment
a quick chat while they're boarding is cool, but that's all (IMO) |

Greed begets greed. The wealthy are never happy with the copious amounts of money they already have, I guess in theory it works, but I think a better practice would be to screen drivers/ toll collectors more scrutinously to see if they have professional and personal integrity. In other words, if they seem shady, don't hire them.
Mind you these guys were old as hell, so that idea may be flawed too. Tough spot to be in. |

Believe me I'm not entertaing them. I have and do understand my responsibilies every moment of every day. If I tap the brake and look in the mirrow I see 40 bodies lean back and forward. If I thought that it was negativly affecting my ability to operate safely I wouldn't talk, at most I drive slower when I'm chatting, but late at night thats fine because I have to stay on scheduale anyways.
Vince came with me on the bus one night and I was chatting with him the whole trip. Everything was fine. |

If you're ever at Yonge/Sheppard, check out the "automated" entrace on the West side of Yonge.
There is some collector lady in the booth, even though she does not provide change or sell tokens/tickets. Not really sure why she is there really.
Either way, she does nothing except for draw dragons in this little binder all day - doesn't even look up when you deposit your fare.
What a waste of money. |

There is a plan to automated the fare collection and transfer system by using a metrolinx pass by 2012. Transfers will be gone and fares will be paid to "refill" you access card. This has been in the works for quite some time now. So the booth people have a sunset job in my opinion. |

well as long as you are attentive
I do find it very annoying when passangers stand right next to the driver chatting away while they need to move the away and sit down |

Agreed. when I see an elderly person or a person with a babay carriage, and they dont move I have to ask them, I get annoyed too. common curtosy. And chances are if I have to ask them, they usually dont want to talk to me afterwards. But it doesnt happen to often, usually me lowering the bus to let them on gives them the hint to get the hell out of the way. |
