I didn't think The Ring was terribly scary, but I still like it a lot for the atmosphere and beautiful cinematography.
They filmed most of the US version around western Washington... :D

i don't love horror movies as much as i did growing up, but i still like to watch them from time to time and yes, i'm all cuddled up on the couch with a pillow covering my eyes during the parts where i know something nuts is about to happen lol
Oh nice one with "What Lies Beneath"! One of the best ghost movies I have seen in many years! "Stir of Echoes" was also pretty good as well as "The Grudge". Part 2 was e.
An older flick to check out is one called "Ghost Story" from 1981. It's just a tad outdated and may seem a bit cheesy in this clip, but it has a good story. If u like the old school horror, you would like it ;) It has the feel of Stephen King's "Sometimes They Come Back"

I don't know precisely what it is about that movie that was so effectively frightening (I'll have to watch it again), but it was one of those rather subtle horror/thriller movies that manages to get to you.
That was the last time I found myself actually scared by a movie.
dude same..

I saw "Drag Me to Hell" on Tuesday. It was the scariest movie I have seen in a long time. Normally, I don't find horror movies very scary because there is always an obvious build up to the "shock" event. Drag Me to Hell was nothing like that; you never knew when was going to happen. It was basically like watching 90 minutes of those YouTube videos where a scary face pops up out of nowhere, screaming.
Drag Me to Hell is a ing comedy-horror (albeit a really good and entertaining one), how can you say it was actually scary?
Weak.

+1, This movie did it for me like few others have. Psychological Horror/Thriller at it's finest right here.
EDIT: This is one of the most creepy/weird/:wtf: scenes in any mainstream horror flick I've ever seen.
Pretty much the entire Silent Hill series was deeply inspired by this movie, and more specifically this scene.
