Movies that have ACTUALLY scared the crap out of you? (pg. 8)

My sister had a habit of showing me horror movies when I was a kid (8-10ish years old). The ones that scared me the worst were the Poltergeist movies and John Carpenter's The Thing. That toy clown from the Poltergeist movie gave me many nightmares. :nervous:

FEAR.

WOW that's hardcore. I watched it when I was like 11 and it scarred me for a long time. I watched it again recently, and while creepy as , it wasn't nearly as scary. Movies nowadays just don't have the same effect.

I walked out of the theater..:stongue:

the strangers

i watched it 2 nights ago and had to stop the movie twice and watch 10 min of news to interrupt it...

the use of silence drove me nuts... no creepy horror music.. just silence and sound effects with minimal music here and there... no monsters and made it seem like it could happen to anybody on any night..

The Descent
Cloudburst
I watched The Others in the dark with my brother. Halfway we turned the lights on and lowered the volume. :p

Also there were some moments in The Village where I seriously freaked out, and got goose bumps and chills ALL over. I thought the movie was crap overall, but some scenes just got me HARD. :p

Can't believe no one mentioned this one.

Didn't make me scared of clowns, but I didn't close my eyes in the shower for months and went nowhere near water drains on the streets.

+1 on

Event Horizon
The Thing
The Descent

Nothing recently though, like everyone else. I always wonder if movies just aren't that good as they used to be, or the obvious being older means harder to scare...

I didn't think The Others was that scary, although I enjoyed it and it had some pretty good jump moments.

Might as well say it's possible to have well-crafted and smart gore moments, too. No?
