I only like the idea behind them. I don't think their price reflects the step up that they've taken from the 1000's.

It'll take a few years for them to settle down I think.

Combine that with the fact that nearly every pio model gets a revision (mk2/Mk3 etc.), I can't see businesses adopting or DJ's requesting them on riders them that fast yet.

Maybe I'm wrong though?

Yeah I have a feeling the CDJ900 & 2000 will be a huge flop for pioneer. It's not like USB sticks are going to be the big new trend for DJs. The only people I can see buying it are A)rich people/spoiled rich kids and B) big money clubs. They are waaaaay too expensive for your average bedroom DJ. Its not like little johnny is going to save $$ from his paper route for 5 years to afford these when he could get something that works just fine for a quarter of the price.

I am planning on picking up a pair of CDJ400s in the next month or so. More or less the same deal as the 900/2000 but for less than half the price!

Every time I look at these things (900s/2000s) and look at their price I say to myself "what the hell was pioneer thinking". Their prices make them totally out of reach for 95% of their potential market. If anything this will just cause more people to try to get their hands on used CDJ1000MK3s, which will hopefully drop in price now.

it took me 3 years to get the digital gear that i wanted.. first i needed a mixer upgrade so i got the pio djm 800... then a year later i picked up a cdj 1k mk3, then comes 2k9 and my girl got my the final cdj 1k mk3 and i couldnt be happier! I dont see the plus on spending 2k for the usb feature... now my issue is, do i convert my records and sell them or should i just purchase all the mp3's of my records...
i dont know if i want to get rid of my TT yet..

you have to remember too though, these obviously aren't aimed at your average bedroom dj, why would they need the usb support?

this is for professional working djs who have to play multiple gigs, sometimes in one night

already i usually only head out to play for the weekend armed with only a thumbdrive, my headphones and maybe a pair of mp3 cds (in case there isn't a serato setup around), but lately, i just plug into serato and away i go

my crates and everything are already all there on my thumbdrive and pretty much everywhere i play on a regular basis, i'm able to plug into a friend's serato setup

now, eliminate the need for a laptop and allow me to plug into a cdj directly allowing me to interact more with the crowd and i'm set... oh wait, they just did

and it's only a matter of time before they're installed at the venues i play at, especially once they become the norm on riders

and once they catch on, i only need to buy the software to set up my playlists and thumbdrive

All of the "neat new stuff" requires you to dig deeper.

thats true and i would like to try all that stuff out. I guess i was expecting to walk up to them and be blown away and i just wasnt because it seemed the same.

Isn't that more or less what they are? To me, these things seem like a half assed effort on the part of pioneer.

Thats pretty f'd up! I bet those havent fallen in price since the day they came out.

Is pioneer really that much better than the rest?

They have a good track record but more importantly, they've become a standard house hold item. Everywhere has them so the ease of rocking up and knowing what's in front of you has made them a sought after item, hence the pricing.
