I haven't read the whole thread because I shouldn't be procrastinating, but whats the big ing deal??? If you don't care about the event, don't click on the link. They are not spamming, they are making threads in an otherwise dead forum about real events that are happening and people go to. Just because you don't go, doesn't mean no one goes. This is the Florida forum, not the PatMcGroin forum so off |
Easy there Sparky & the same goes to everyone else. Post your replies w/o any disrespecting.

Completely understood as I am allowing this thread to continue to see what other opinions are posted.
I see it as a valid thread & I will see what everyone has to say before I make a decision on this matter.

majority of who? people that chat about things in this forum? i can tell you first hand a lot of people DO go to meeko's events. his events have actually been pretty successfull and drawn a lot of people. some people have found out about his events from this site and another one that he posts on. even the ty little flyer'd event i posted here got like 3 people that showed up and said they found out about it on TA (but when i asked their username they said they are not registered or dont post) |

no one is trying to fool anyone. ive said it several times, if these guys contributed to the forum none of this would be an issue. but the sole reason they come on here is to make money by promoting their parties. THATS IT.
i couldnt give two s about some lurkers. why do i care about someone that does nothing for us? that practically only uses us. its not exactly hard to register on this site. and most of us are fairly decent individuals. a lot of us even know each other in real life. all through this site.
im just sick of sifting through the spam on this site. because thats what it still is. yes its not hard, but its annoying. we used to have rules. |

| this.
how dense can you be?
I've already mentioned that this site is NOT for "advertisement" IN ANY SECTION . We have a perfectly fine events thread and promoters should not bump their own threads.
I'm sorry you must kiss ass in hopes Meeko will book you. |

if you read those quotes that i posted and have half a brain you can see what this rant is really about. its about these "little douchebags" and "stupid little nobodies" and "little wack parties".
THATS IT. thats ALL its about. its about you not knowing anything about the person and assuming bad things about them / insulting them. its about STATUS and ELITISM. you may say its about board participation but yet you also make the comments i quoted, comments that make me doubt your true character and motive because they are contradictory / counterproductive.
meeko doesnt conversate on this board ("contribute") so therefore he is not worthy of posting an event thread. its unfortunate that probably a lot of people here will find nothing wrong with that statement and pat mcgroin / mellymel etc will probably get their way.
the thing thats really ed up about it is, in your mind, an event thread should only be by an established artist or production company, OR by a nobody that spends a lot of their time conversating on this board.
well, let me put it this way, the current system which is you need to be a "somebody" to create an event thread, otherwise if you are a "nobody" you need to file it away in a big stickied thread ... is wrong and doesnt work and will never work. why? obviously if you want to get your event some exposure you would rather put it somewhere more visible. and when you see other "somebodies" posting their own threads then its easy to guess what the "nobody" will do. and you make it worse when you tell them they havent earned their right to post because then they just look at the others and ask why are they worthy? there are events posted by people that practically never post but they are worthy to have their own thread because their events are known to be good or they have been around for a while.
you see, its a catch 22: you dont post much because you're busy throwing events, but you're also not established / a big name, so how can you get to either level? you cant because you're stuck, because this place is only for a small group of friends (that conversate often) to advertise to each other their own parties (beach bash) or tell each other about a big name that's comin to town. the problem is theres a whole ton more people on here that lurk, this place gets a lot of traffic.
its not done this way on any other forum that i know of and for good reason: because it nurtures an elitist snob culture which is exactly what the EDM scene needs to get away and distance itself from.
its sad that is the culture we have come to, its been a slow depressing backwards evolution of thinking on TA over the years, "forward thinking" is not a term anyone should associate with TA. there is nothing good progressing from the collaboration of minds here anymore. its degraded into an endless cycle of snarky comments and recursive ego battling/stroking by people with big mouths and small ears.
someone go ahead and do the correct democatic approach which is have a vote. but i have a feeling i know what the results will be.
P.S. Meeko and I technically are competitors, we dont ever collaborate |

while I agree with a lot of your points because you've actually stated them in a constructive manner, it still doesn't change the fact that its still spam. just because some people need their mortages refinanced, or need larger penises, or want free xxx hot anal pornstar sex, doesn't mean I should have to look at that bull everytime I check my email. Atleast there I have a spam filter I can use.
Its not about being elite. I am one of the few people who have continued to care about this board over the years. Whenever wmc rolls around I answer every noob question I can. Check the archives if you don't want to believe it. So its not about that I don't know meeko or full on. Hell I don't know riotgear and have only met kaenow once where I didn't even say much to him. But they don't bother me because they aren't using this board soley for their own benefit.
I could of simply sent manny a pm about all this and maybe he would of done something without having to go through all this, but I posted this thread to see how others feel about the subject first. Even check a few posts up, I said if everyone feels different then I'll let the issue die.
Our opinions obviously differ, and I agree a vote should be started, but I don't think enough people have voiced an opinion yet. Creating a vote where no one knows the issue and people just blindly vote on is a retarded idea imo. |

| I wish everyone would jump on the promotions bandwagon (in a not so spammish [word?] way) and help bring the Florida scene back. This was once a HUGE edm scene in the world. Miami still is a mecca for dance music. I mean how many cities can have (nov. 28) Guetta, PVD, Morillo and Dubfire on the SAME night in 4 different venues?????? And, that's not counting any DnB or Breaks events that may be going on that day/weekend..... Just sayin :) |

This FORUm isn't only about PARTYING and PARTIES.
This section wouldn't be so dead if people contributed a bit more and I don't mean by posting a party.
If that's all you contribute - then yes it is spam.
Atleast venture out. But when you have members who have been here for a long time, you don't want to see someone JUST sign up because they want to promote their party. Even if that isn't the reason WHY they signed up - it sure does looks like it. |

yea but we're talking about people posting their own seperate thread to promote their own EDM event, i thought.

i can see the sore point here, its when someone with 1 total posts comes in and their first post is to promote, it can leave people a feeling of being used or groped by a pervert. is it this principle behind it that annoys you more or the spam / clutter principle? the former is less important than the latter, and the latter, well i just dont see it being an issue. if it were twice or three times the amount it still personally would not be an issue for me. it would have to be seriously a lot of event threads to bother me
so yea creating a binary vote is hard given the subject. but it would be nice to formulate this into language that explains exactly what is being voted on so there can be a yes/no type thing. |

Yes to getting rid of threads of posters who only post to promote their parties.
and I would like to know your thoughts on having them contribute to MORE than just parties. Obviously we have different views on what contributing to this board means, but solely posting your parties AND bumping your thread 3 times... is NOT contributing. |
