yea but we're talking about people posting their own seperate thread to promote their own EDM event, i thought.
i can see the sore point here, its when someone with 1 total posts comes in and their first post is to promote, it can leave people a feeling of being used or groped by a pervert. is it this principle behind it that annoys you more or the spam / clutter principle? the former is less important than the latter, and the latter, well i just dont see it being an issue. if it were twice or three times the amount it still personally would not be an issue for me. it would have to be seriously a lot of event threads to bother me |
maybe its not so obvious to those who dont come to this forum like i do everyday, but the threads are plentiful.

im gonna sound like a broken record, but from time to time its okay to promote, which is why i dont really have a problem with it to some degree. but when thats all you do, its very frustrating. first of all, most of us can find out this information on these parties by ourselves. we're on mailing lists or from friends or facebook or whatever. theres so many other outlets for this kind of that i dont like that its here too. once again, to a certain degree its okay, but when its just being spammed here as we're just another source for people to drop their garbage on, it quickly becomes uncool. especially when we even have a place for exactly this (the events thread).
ive always like the fact that this forum wasnt just another bull party forum. i mean i know its based on that (obviously) but this forum was always different. its the members that made it that way. but by allowing all of this to go on, we're just turning into the exact thing we strived to be different from. you gotta go back in the archives to understand all this, but once upon a time this wasnt just the "florida" forum. it was the "florida / southeast usa" forum. atlanta has usually had a pretty decent scene, and their main promoter liquified made a thread for EVERY party he would do. now they would be big parties like sasha, and pvd, and tiesto, and blah blah blah. and he would have parties every week if not multiple parties in a week. for EVERY party he would make a new thread, and still does, check the atlanta forums. we florida people came together and said we didnt want to see that. so we split from them. actually kicked them out rather. we kept our forum and they got a new one. since that time we made a set of rules regarding promoting. "i.e. no threads for individual events unless its 2 weeks away. and post events in the events thread." and so on. now obviously we've all broken the rules somewhat. no one waits until 2 weeks anymore, which is fine because the forum is indeed dead whereas before it wasnt, but like ive been saying, i feel like its getting out of hand.
from the rules thread ( http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...5&forumid=43&s= ):

-Post any info in the Events thread if you come across info on parties & events. If your event is not in the Events thread I will consider it "SPAMMING". Also please make a Thread for an Event 2 weeks b4 the day of the event & not a monthor so b4 the event.

now times do change. and if people really dont care about this set of rules we established long ago and we have ot change them, then fine. but im just asking the question if people care or not.
so far it seems pretty split down the middle. so i dont even know.

Yes to getting rid of threads of posters who only post to promote their parties.
and I would like to know your thoughts on having them contribute to MORE than just parties. Obviously we have different views on what contributing to this board means, but solely posting your parties AND bumping your thread 3 times... is NOT contributing. |

So what?! These threads generate discussion, which is what this forum is all about. Seriously dude, what is wrong with you.. Let me break it down if this is too difficult to understand:
Number of replies in the last page of threads from Liquified and Sugar Society:
3, 26, 222, 174, 47, 39, 6, 8
What is the problem here? |

god mel used the right adjective with you. dense.
i dont think anyone cares what liquified is doing now. its not our issue. it was our issue many years ago when we split from them, which is why i brought it up. you seem to be all mixed up.
now using your logic, go check how much discussion is being generated by the threads that are in question here in this forum that is actually the point of discussion. dont go login into another forum and see how many replies those threads have. focus on whats here and now. go... i'll wait. |

Plus, there are lots of TA's which haunt the boards and don't post; They are just here to see what events are in their area... |
I'm one of those. I rarely post, but attend shows as often as I can. Be it big name dj's (such as the Tiesto show I attend in Orlando) or just some gigs at a club around town. (but I guess thats why I have e-nation for that):tongue2
As far as the over abundance of promoting/spamming, I'm not bothered by it, nor does it affect my comings and goings of TA. Ah well, to each their own. :tongue3 |

you see, its a catch 22: you dont post much because you're busy throwing events, but you're also not established / a big name, so how can you get to either level? you cant because you're stuck, because this place is only for a small group of friends (that conversate often) to advertise to each other their own parties (beach bash) or tell each other about a big name that's comin to town. the problem is theres a whole ton more people on here that lurk, this place gets a lot of traffic.

Now you are pointing the finger at me with this post & I will reply. I am the one who comes up with those said Beach Bashes simply to get members of this forum to come together & listen to the music we love best & thats EDM & not make a single dime out of it.
None of the promoters who post an Individual Event thread to promote their own parties ever pm to say hey can I come out & spin or can I have ome of my peeps spin at your party? Why is that? Cuz maybe they aren't going to make money?
We on this board have been a tight group for a very long time. You just joined the board a month ago so really you haven't been around long enough to really understand.
Especially during those times where there has been mad chaos between atlanta & Florida peeps. Lord knows I've had my fair share with butting heads with some ATLTA's.
I have been very leniant with those promoters & others who have started Events thread despite them not reading the forum rules.
This section for the most part runs on cruise control w/o me having to crack any whips. Reason being is cuz I respect every member as they respect me as their MOD. If I wanted to I CAN crack said whip I really be strict but why do that? Everyone here are adults & should be able to follow simple rules.
Stevo...
when was the last time you saw me on the board since you joined as much as I have been on these past 2 days? Prob rarely & that is me still watching over the board & making sure the board is running smooth.
Have you noticed not a single promoter which has been mentioned in the 4 or 5 pages of this thread have not botherd reading the board? Except for riotgear who has at least given his 2 cts worth about this topic which to me I give mad respect for him doing so no other Promoter has expressed their opinions with this.
So I ask you this Stevo....
What is your thought about the promoters mentiond several times not even taking the time to read a thread about them promoting on the board they are a member of? It doesn't give them much credibilty. Does it?
I'm letting this thread run thru the weekend to see if any of the promoters who have crosshairs on them have anything to say. Otherwise action will be taken in reagards to this.
& btw.. I don't recall ever seeing you introduce your self.. So allow me to do so.

\\ Welcome to the FLORIDA TranceAddict Forums//
Plenty of good peeps here who enjoy all sorts of EDM. So don't take too many things to the heart or personal if they seem like they are being to direct. Everyone has there opinion & they will express it at many times. So again don't take it to the heart.

I think Manny made a great post.
Everyone is more then welcome to join us in the BBQ if you want to road trip to Miami. Just bring food & beer & chairs. (aka th eessentials)
There have been many times Miami TA's drove to Orlando, Tampa and Gainesville for house parties or regular parties - we just have a tendency to walk away with someone in jail. So it's safer if you guys from the north come down.
:stongue:
it's funny that those who only post parties can't even come here to explain why they don't contribute more to this board. |

the TA beach bash was not a good example and im not pointing at you, the idea is that its ok for chatty people to make an event thread but people who just come in here to ad their event is not ok ... i think that's hokey with too much grey area.

meeko for example does not throw events to make money, i for example made an ad for a weekly night which does not profit me or the djs, its just to get the word out and get heads to show up. we didnt PM you because we live in the Tampa bay area, 273 miles away.

well they come in and even if they read the rules thread they still see a bunch of seperate event threads with lots of pages of replies, so they probably think "oh those rules are obviously outdated or not enforced anymore, probably a relic from the old days when the scene was huge and active". credibility? in what regard? credible at throwing good events? just because they break the rules of advertising on some board doesnt mean they are un professional hacks at throwing events.
it seems like this is more about a circle of friends who have been here a long time and when suddenly a non chatty person comes out of nowhere and ads an event they get the outsider treatment. it really doesnt sound like an issue of spam/clutter because there hardly is any.
well, look at it this way, all these seperate event threads i see right now on "tranceaddict Forums > Local Scene Info / Discussion > USA > USA - Florida >" are threads that have lots of pages of discussion in them. whats wrong with that? it encourages activity in the forum. so what if its discussion based off some money making production companies that bring sasha or lee burridge to town? its still "Local Scene Info". And the little guy spreading the word about his no cover dive bar event deserves to be right next to them, even if they dont have time to chat on the board.
btw im not new i just created a new account, my old one was "stevesto". ive been here for like, since 2004 i think, and ive never made friends with anyone here on a personal level, and i like it that way (ive met people in person on message boards before and it was an awkward disturbing experience) |

:haha: what a joke.
you don't like meeting people so you are here for the wrong reasons.
I've met hundreds of TA's. LA, LV, San Fran, Toronto, Texas, New York, Georgia and more. Those are just the places I've gone to visit. There's a lot more I've met when they came to miami WMC and electric zoo NY and DEMF Detroit. Never once had an akward experience.
The events thread is all you need to be posting your events. You don't want to meet anyone or contribute, then why defend? Why spam? Why make clutter.
People who LURK can READ "EVENTS THREAD" for all your eventful needs:gsmile: |

more specific: ive met a few people that came to my friends event because of an event thread on here and they were normal people, but they dont post, they lurk. ive been to a "meetup" of people that post all the time on another board and its disturbing meeting people in person that spend a lot of time chatting on a board, thats all. well, then again that was a car forum, not a music forum, so maybe its different here.
either way its off topic so, yea, moving on ... |
