Because tradition dictates that marriage is a man + a woman. Simple concept.

I think you're misguided to believe that blindly following the arbitrary or outdated whims of tradition will make society better. There's definitely an argument that the values of marriage are beneficial, but the "man + woman" part seems irrelevant when it comes to improving society.

Don't understand what? What more do you want explained when somebody says "A marriage should be between a man and a woman"?

Says who?

Marriage is not just a legal contract, or a business merger, it is a symbolic construct that marks a milestone in a person's life. It is a celebration and declaration of two people's love and commitment to each other. One can't just replace that with "a standard package of legal deals".

It's not a priviledge but a notion that all people possess. Everyone has a right to celebrate and observe any ritual or belief that's important to them, therefore, everyone has a right to be married.

Misguided? As though someone against gay marriage were incapable of genuinely thinking, even with a bit of extrinsic influence (we are all influenced, for that matter), that gay marriage is unnatural.

Look, neither I nor you are going to agree. You have your views, and I have mine. I am not going to harp upon the "man + woman" issue anymore because, like I said, we're going to arrive at that impasse. You think it's irrelevant whether a man and woman or man and man validates a marriage (and therefore everything that comes with a marriage), and I think it's relevant.

Sooooo..... yeah.

What if we just kept the word marriage for men and women and used the word "egairram" for when people of the same sex would like a legally binding union that means whatever to them that they want it to mean? That way we don't have to corrupt any traditions with aberrations.

Then the correct word I should have used (and I'm not saying this for convenience's sake) is "is" instead of "should". And I never (at least, not intentionally) meant to imply that marriage is akin to "legal deals".

That's not what I'm saying at all. There just seems to be a large gap in your thinking that you are either unable or unwilling to address.

Would it be such a leap for you to trust me when I say I'm being completely honest in my opinion and that I'm not coercing within me some reasoning that would automatically make me have a sobering epiphany?

edit:

and that I've honestly weighed both ends of the argument and still arrive to my conviction?
