Nearly everything I say is smart; just because you don't agree with it doesn't deminish it. But let's not get side-tracked this time.;)

my high school was REALLY strict about the pledge. one time some kid did not want to get up and pledge even after the teacher repeatedly asked him to, he remained sitting (he was a foreign student, family just moved from eastern europe i believe)

"*name* could you please get up"
"i don't wish to, it's my choice to decide, not yours"
"as long as you're in my classroom it is"
"i'm still not getting up"

teacher comes over and pulls him up by his shirt and gets right up in his face and tells him to never disrespect the flag and country like that again. oddly enough, nothing happened to the teacher. after countless times refusing to pledge, he was suspended for 2 or so weeks

that teacher ended up getting his car keyed all over by a bunch of gay couples a few months later :p

oh ya, the guy also worked as a clean up artist/animator on the pagemaster :wtf:

Why be under god? Why not be under ourselves, our own destiny as this country moves to make together.

Why make these the only two available options? This is part of the modern problem, that "God" (or whatever you want to call "it") has somehow become separated from, is something apart from and outside of the individual.

First, revise the current definition of "God" as being some sort of tangible entity that somehow exists outside of everything we know and can perceive, to something intangible that pervades all, that is everything we know and perceive, as well as that which we don't (yet) know and can't (yet) perceive. Then we no longer have to deal with the issue of "my God" vs. "your God" vs. "no God" - it's just a name used to describe all of existence.

Then disbelief is a religious belief. And if separation of church and state means separation from all religious belief, then it´s impossible.

Religion

1.
a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. (though note, not limited to) when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
