| quote: | TTC chair Adam Giambrone ran up a tab of over $3,000 in cab fares, tokens and metropasses last year, municipal expense reports show.
The councilor – who has a taxpayer-funded Metropass – also bought two Metropasses for a summer intern plus several weekly TTC passes and $256 in tokens. The costs were covered by taxpayers.
The expense reports show a variety of cab fares, including a ride home after doing his show from a streetcar during On the Rocket.
Another ride was less than one kilometre – along Queen Street from Bay to John Streets.
In an email to the Toronto Sun, Giambrone said he sometimes takes a taxi due to time constraints ore because he's carrying large items like files.
Councillor Peter Milczyn, a TTC commissioner, told the Sun he thinks Giambrone's taxi fares are "wrong" and "a little bit hypocritical." Milczyn also said he understands councilors need to take cabs from time to time. |

I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong with what happened.
Blog TO dissected the the fees and it worked out to like only $1,400 or something being spent on taxis. And at the price of taxis, isn't that much.
In the grand scheme of things, I think his costs are justified and definitely not an outrageous amount.
The only that that SHOULD be questioned is if the taxi rides were for work related purposes or if they were just for personal reasons.

So? Who cares?
Do you want to see the cab bills of any executive of any company?
This story is irrelevant. |

I strongly beg to differ.
Take a look at page 3/4 on this document/expense report filled & signed by Adam Giambrone...more specifically under "MATTER #:" He lists "FUN" as the reason.

Now, that expense was only $8, but that's not the point. As the head of The Better Way, doesn't it seem almost hypocritical & somewhat of a conflict of interest for him to be using Taxi services so often instead of relying on the product that he's responsible for representing?
Being the head of the service, he should practice what he preaches and lead by example. Instead of convincing riders that they should be riding the Red Rocket through ads and speeches, he should be shown riding the service more often.
I saw the blogTO article and they're comparing him to other councillors, and sure they have ridiculous amounts in comparison, but they're NOT head of the TTC. |

Taken from The Toronto Star:
| quote: | In an emailed response to questions from the Star, Giambrone wrote: “I am on the TTC 4-5 times a day and this is my main mode of transportation. Many people see me on the system everyday and can attest to this.”
He added that he walks, cycles, takes public transit and taxis to the many events he attends every day.
“Clearly there are not enough taxis bills submitted for this to be my main mode of transport. There are, however, sometimes when taxis are needed due to time constraints or what I am carrying with me (i.e. files). All expenses fit within the Council policy.”

This is a non-story. He has an expense budget, he is obviously going to use it, especially for transportation (a necessary cost of doing business). If people have a problem with some of the things he is expensing, then they also need to question who is approving/authorizing the expenses.
Some of the comments on the CP24 article are hilarious. |

Taxi rides for executives come from shareholders' money. It's pretty much the same thing.
This is a reasonable expense. I'd rather Giambrone take taxis to get from point A to point B so that he can spend his time doing his job, instead of wasting time to save $5 by taking the streetcar.
His time is MUCH more valuable to the TTC, the city and taxpayers than a few dollars saved by taking the TTC. |

| I think the funny assed part of all this is how it illustrates that the TTC is not a very good service. |

Does everyone here miss the point that the HEAD OF THE TTC himself has to take taxis because the TTC isnt convenient enough?
He just confirms by his actions what ive known for years.
I love my car! ;) |

There are simply times when a taxi is more practical, even if the transit system is well run. I would imagine in New York, the transit chair takes taxis or drives a car. |
