| My cat of 16 years died last fall; I stayed up with her all night waiting for the vets office to open. That was a really hard day. I'm sorry about your loss, dude, corgis rule. |

isnt it kind of upsetting that people breed dogs to deformity simply because they look cute.
It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.. |

Are we not breeding anorexic blond models for the exact same reason? |

pugs are my biggest peeve. They're breathing is hindered due to the formation of their muzzle.
Theres an excellent documentary called "the peidgree of dogs exposed" which touches on this more.
Basically breeding dogs for asthetics in order to give them a specific look and gait actually turns out to be quite debilitating to their health and projected lifespan.
and correction lira, we are not "breeding" anorexic models and what not. These are people who chose to change themselves throughout their lifespans through nutrition and external body modifications. This isn't changing of genetics.
I used to have a dog, a german shepphard. was the best dog ever. But its intresting to know that the amount of inbreeding that has gone through to get the pure breed has had adverse effects in her posture with hip displaysia.
To put things into perspective wolves can live up to 24 years outside the wild (6-10 in the wild).
Now compare that to the average domestic dog and you can understand how much breed creation through constant inbreeding has degraded that time frame.
Here's an intresting documentary to watch on the subject.

| Pomeranians also come to mind. So very few of them actually survive birth - that just doesn't sound natural at all. |

Oh, oh, neither have I. But I'm afraid this intense inbreeding may lead to a flat-chested population of so-called models, and that's a shame :(

Oh, I'm really sceptic about that. Anorexic models often date other anorexic models, so they have anorexic modelettes and the cycle goes on.
I'm telling you, people thought Twiggy was a freak in the 70's, now we think she's all right. Something must be done, the gene pool is at stake! |
