Losing a pet...

I don't mean for this to be a sympathy thread. My girlfriend's dog, Gizmo just died. She had lung cancer. She would train horses with my gf's father and was the cutest, happiest, sweetest thing ever. She wasn't even my dog, but I feel like I've been shot. Gizmo lived with us for a while, and she was the funniest, prettiest, best dog ever.
How do you guys cope with pets dying? Am I lame for being so attached to dogs? If anybody feels like being a smartass, please take it elsewhere.
Gizmo used to run around one of the horse trainers and wrestle with the whip after she cracked it. She was such a good little horse trainer...

My condolences.
Dogs are so full of love. I'll be deeply saddened once my dog passes. |

why do so many people call their dog gizmo.
You are definitely not lame for being attached to a pet....I love my dog and it will be a sad day when he dies.

| No man not lame at all. My dog died when he was 18 last year and I was sad as hell. I dealt with it like most people do and told myself he wasn't in pain anymore, which is the reason we put him down. Then that night I got drunk (my gf and I 'poured one out for bandit'). Time is your friend and enemy in this situation. I talked to my mom, and then just kind of felt a little better every day after the first few. Look at pictures of him having fun, and be there with your girlfriend, and let time do its thing. |
