Can't wait :D I've been there for the day, but never stayed at a resort there. Can't wait though!!

PS. Get a credit card that includes all that insurance crap.

My TD Visa includes built in Trip Cancellation and medical, plus my health benefits via work covers everything you need.

No need to pay any extra for it!

You do know the real reason why swim up bars were invented right?

How else are you suppose to stay at the bar without having to leave to go the washroom! Stay away from the warm spots!

lol...

when are you going?

Thanks for all the suggestions people...this is still a tough one but I am thinking of going to either Dominican or Mexico.

Do you have the travel visa? I have the Gold Elite, and it only covers trip cancellation, but not medical.
Abercrombie
My work's health insurance (Manulife, and Sunlife previously))covers all travel insurance for work and pleasure trips. Check your work if you have one.

Just got back from Cuba. Definitely lots of young people. The food is disgusting, but as long as you go into it with an open mind you'll be okay. I would recommend venturing off the resort for food a couple of times too b/c there's lots of good cheap food elsewhere (i.e. Al Capone's house). I'd also recommend going off the resort a night or two to check out the night life. There's usually a fun crew at every hotel that will take ppl to the "hot spot" on certain nights. Some of the goods ones in Cuba: Mondays - The Pirate Cave (literally in a club in a cave); Saturdays - The Mediterranean (a club with 4 walls, no ceiling and the DJ booth is in a tree house that's in a tree in the centre of the club); Any non-rainy day - Calle 62 (an open air bar with a live Cuban band and ppl dance in the street).

lisa, varadero is not cuba, i despise that place !!!

go to trinidad, santa maria or houlgin next time.

not choosing cuba because "food is " can be one of the biggest mistakes of your life love child. i had a steak the size of a table in trinidad for 3 pesos. you just gotta know here to go.

i'll never set my foot in mexico or dominican again.

FINE!! :whip: lol j/k I really want to go to Mexico as well to see the ruins, but was definitely not interested in doing that over spring break.

I still think you should consider Cuba though. And if you do, go to Havana. So much culture and beauty there, and the people are so friendly. Don't let us scare you with the food comments haha. Our resorts food wasn't the best, but there were definitely things that we liked and lots to choose from. I tried rabbit and boar for the first time. And like I said, if you eat off the resort (we did a few times), there's a lot of good food. In fact, you can find the best Cuban meals if you go to a local's house and have them cook you dinner. IMO, it's definitely a place you should visit before the embargo is lifted.

I'm sure wherever you go you'll have a great time though! Especially if you've never been before.

I have the TD Visa First Class Infinite.

It might be the Infinite that adds the extras. The CC costs about $120/yr, but there are so many things that you get that add up to make the initial well worth while!

All of the trip cancellation, medical stuff, extended warranty on electronic purchases, not to mention the travel rewards. I definitely would recommend this Visa. That or the Avion Infinite. I heard they are virtually identical.

And i'm sure you could negotiate on the annual fee. When my card is about to renew i'm going to contact TDCT and see what they offer me to NOT to switch to RBC's Avion! lol

WIN!

I hate resorts period. Go to cuba and get out and see the real deal. Bust out the dictionary and stay at casa particulars and eat some real cuban food (not the resort crap) and youll see how great the food is!

I went to Veradero for a night and couldnt wait to leave. The resort was nice but absolutely no substance at all to the place. And you have to deal with the same ignorant people that you leave the country to try to get away from! LOL

Ya, I think mine is $30/yr...not sure, I got it a long time ago and was able to get them to waive the annual fee. But it has 1% cash back, TD auto club, trip cancellation, extended warranty on anything I buy in full with visa. I'll have to compare the additional things you get with your card and see if it's worthwhile for me to switch. I've been unbelievably happy with the gold elite and have used almost all (if not all) of the additional incentives (i.e. the extended warranty, trip cancellation etc. etc.)

Edit - Ah, I remember why I don't like travel cards...I'd rather the cash in my pocket to points that I may or may not use.

No we never came across it. What's it like. In Havana we went to this little restaurant and had baked chicken that tasted like my grandmothers, and black beans & rice. Ian had pork I think.
