i suspect this as well..

personally i get bored after a couple of days and always up for some adventure exploring the country.

Ideally a good resort has the best of both worlds to satisfy all sorts of objectives.

with that said:

Costa Rica!

You and I would have a nice time on vacation together! lol Big ups to Costa Rica too. I went for 2 weeks last August and it was beautiful. Lots of activity and relaxing.

That's true of a lot of places too though. (i.e. Mexico) However, I would agree that it's probably a bit better in Mexico.

While we're on the topic...

I'm actually considering hitting up Dominican Republic for a week or two next month. For anyone who has been there: where would you recommend I go?

I'm not looking for a 'laid-back-at-the-resort-vacation.' That said, a city with an atmosphere like Cancun would be great. So far Cabarete has been suggested.

Leaving on Sunday May 2nd at 5:30 pm and arriving at 9:00 pm so Im basically going to go to sleep when I get there and wake up Monday morning. I leave May 9th at 10:30 pm so I get most of the day there and it was cheaper with those times too. I paid $1085 taxes in.

For instance, if you're socially retarded or some kind of hermit, then Cancun would just be a waste of money. But if you're down to party and make some stupid decisions, then you'll have a good time.

hmmm I'm not sure which category to put the OP; he falls into both, it seems.

:p

ps. i have a friend in Cuba right now telling me he's having a great time with his wife. enjoying drinking and the beautiful beach. my vote is Mexico because food is important for me too and I'm not sure about Dominican (never been there).
