I hate it when people are done reading the newspaper or metro, and just leave it on the seat.
|
I completely disagree. I don't want to speak for everyone, but I think that most people leave the newspaper there so that someone else can read it. That's what I do at least. And I often pick up the paper when someone leaves it on a seat. |

Uh, what you guys are doing is assuming that someone will read it. Most often then not, maybe 2 of 10 people will probably read it after you (assuming you take the subway twice a day for 5 days).
In that case you are still littering. You are ASSUMING! Not everyone else that comes after you may not read one.
I understand why most people read it. So what happens at the end of the night in which you pick it up, read it, then put it back?
i get on the subway at kipling st and i often see a ttc worker with a garbage bag full with gloves picking up all the papers on the floor and seat at roughly 10-12pm because they were all left there. so im guessing all these papers were read by some rider who had the same mentality as you guys did.
its littering, you should be ashamed for thinking otherwise, even though your intentions were different. |

so you're rather read it and throw it out?! wtf that's a waste of the paper ffs's!
I'll stand by my point - leave the paper behind, it's not food scraps and doesn't smell |

lol overreacting much?
I'm not ashamed at all. I don't litter. In fact, I've been known to pick up after other people if I see someone throw something on the ground. I have often seen people pick up papers that have been left and read them, so I know that some people do read them, Maybe not every time, but I'm fine with that. How do you know that the TTC workers don't just throw out all of the Metros that are left in the display (or whatever the hell it's called)?
And your assumption that I take the subway twice a day for 5 days is wrong. I rarely take it. |

exactly!
riding the subway after work - people are constantly picking the paper up, even from the floor, to read on the way home |

overreacting? lol i could care less. and my proposed situation was not directed to you personally so don't be too quick to jump. it was only a typical situation for someone using the ttc for a regular week schedule
im not the pollution police but you what you two (ladies) are ASSUMING that when you leave a paper behind, you think someone will almost in every situation read it after you. but what happens if they don't? is that not littering?

lol so newspapers get read then thrown out to be recycled. waste of paper? unless you want to keep it to be used to for burning of firewood or maybe use it for paper mache then... i dont see whats wrong with reading it then recycling the paper.....
i could be wrong, but my logic of having paper recycled can be totally make-believe |

lol it seemed like you saying that we should be "ashamed" of ourselves for leaving a newspaper for someone else to read was overreacting to me. But whatever! haha
And personally, no I don't think that it's littering. If I were to throw the newspaper on the ground (or the subway floor), I'd even go as far as saying to leave the newspaper on the seat next to me not folded nicely would be a different story. But just leaving it folded on the seat, I don't consider littering. In my view, it's the same as if I'm on vacation and I've finished reading a book that I'll never read again, and I leave it in the lobby or at the airport for someone else to read. I know when I take the Go Train, I often look for newspapers that have been left in seats to look through rather than grabbing one of my own.
Agree to disagree I supposed ;)
P.S. How did I get quoted as saying that last part you replied to? lol That wasn't me!! |
