Electro and soul before that which is kind of the forerunner of modern R&B but House also. Then Trance developed from House as far as I can tell but there also electronic bands that have influenced things too. But my latest book :How to Sum up 20 years of dance music in 2 sentences is not out yet.
If anyone knows how to get a proper acapella of that.

interesting. assuming you're african-european, you truly are an african that I aspire to be. your race is good with the pen and pad but your race is also skilled behind the decks. it's truly a revelation.

It was just vinyl in a shelf. you listened to it, if you liked it you bought it. Mostly there was no way of finding out what they looked like unless it was featured in a magazine or something. Some genres seem to be over 90% produced by a single race, if you really needed to be sure.
I didn't really draw a line between Trance and House so maybe I just didn't notice.
Goldie - Inner City Life
That trance mix is quite tastey, Rabbit in the moon maybe, not sure.
Tall Paul vs Billie - though I think Billie won .. lol
ChemEnhanced
anything prior to 1995 would be a classic

As this is a "TRANCE" forum, I will post what I consider classics in the genre:
Starting with the three first that came up in mind when I read the thread question:
Age of Love - Age of Love (Jam & Spoon's Watch Out for Stella Remix)
Future Sound of London - Papua New Guinea
Humate - Love Stimulation (Paul van Dyk Love Remix)
Then, over to the second, progressive wave:
Robert Miles - Children (anything released before this track goes under the classic/old/firstwave sub-genre)
Armin van Buuren - Blue Fear
Chicane - Offshore
BT - Flaming June
Then, the third, Gouryellan wave:
William Orbit - Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings (Ferry Corsten Remix)
Gouryella - Tenshi
Safri Duo - Played A-live
And at last, the fourth, mainstream wave:
NONE! LOL!
But there are some classics from this period:
Airbase - Escape
Lamar3m - Aurum

Hmm this is interesting, so trance took a turn after Gouryella hit the scene?
