I also forgot in the US not only do we have the professional leagues we also have the college play and in Baseball we have like 3 levels of farm teams as well.
Also in a lot of really small towns they are huge on High School level sports.
To say we aren't passionate about sports is about as clueless as you can get, if anything we are more passionate about them then Europeans, we just happen to like a whole load more of them. We have Football, college and professional in the fall, with basketball (college and professional) starting up as well. Football lasts till February, Basketball lasts still heck, June. Baseball gears up in the spring and that lasts all through summer, back to fall. |
No you have wrestling. That's it and that's . |

I think that is the global appeal of soccer, and I try not to mean this in a way that just sounds like a troll, but the game is pretty brain dead simple to follow along. Its a bunch of guys running around kicking a ball, unless you know the minute (and I mean MINUTE) details it appears as nothing really "amazing" is happening. Its just people running around kicking a ball back and forth. I think thats why it appeals so well, it transends barriers of intelligence or attention and is a dead simple thing to follow. Plus in Europe it obviously is an allegorical alternative to nationalism that lead to the deaths of millions of your country men, so I guess it has its draw there... Why take up arms when you can have guys run around on a soccer field instead representing your country? |
To each his own but if people watch baseball because of the statistics, it kinda makes more sense if they made a career in economics or as an analyst because common sense dictates that sporting events are meant to entertain those who do not have a vested interest in it.
Personally, i find american football to be an extremely boring game. Namely because its more about the coach and the commercials than about the players. Are they that unfit that all of them can't stay on the field for the entirety of the game? And what the hell is with this timeout strategy? Its like studying for an exam and in the middle of it going, oh , now that i'v seen the questions , i realized i didn't do my homework properly so i need a break to study again and the professor can spend that time watching a Clydesdale fart in a womans face while she sips some Bud light.
Ever wonder why the rest of the world never quite got into any American sports (besides maybe basketball)? For those in the know, baseball was just voted out of the Olympics making it only the second sport in the events history to do so. |

Nou to enjoy a goal in Footbal is something else its very emotional and sometimes it can bring you to tears .
I find that difficult in american sports due to the fact that their so many points in a single game that it makes it less special when someone scores . |

LOL your idea of American football is pretty warped. You know why they can't stay on the field? Because 300lbs guys made mostly of muscle are slamming into them full force and throwing them to the ground, play after play. The number of concussions and brain damage that result from this sport are horrific. People are seriously injured all the time. The game is about strategy and then applying brute, violent force. Its like a commander leading his troops in to war. Its very militaristic.
Baseball, yea, its something you need to be interested in. The game is by far one of the most unique though and the skill that the players posses is beyond compare to most other sports. The number of positions that need to be played and the possible outcomes of each play. Its amazing. There is no way you can deny that baseball is a game of immense physical and mental talent. |

Yea, but why would I care? I mean... it is JUST A SPORT. The idea that is has some emotional level higher than any other sport is pretty stupid.
You don't need to make such a deep emotional connection to a sport to enjoy it. Besides, with things like baseball it'd be insane to have that much emotional investment. The number of games they play in a season is huge. Its more about the advancement of the team over all. |

I wouldn't deny that hockey players are tough, but both games are incredibly physically demanding.
While physical violence and hard pounds in hockey are somewhat normal its not 90% of the game which american football is. Rugby is probably the only game that can compare. |
