Boy is this ever true. I've mentioned it before. I listen to less than an hour of radio a week (the only time I listen to it is when the other girl in my carpool drives - twice a week), and I consistently here the same 5 songs.

That is true for some songs that you hear them so many times that you just start to sing along with them (ie Nickelback and Lady Gaga songs). There are also others out there that when you hear them for the first time they really are catchy and people like them instantly if they weren't fans of the music/artist before.
Not all pop music is evil; it is actually fun to listen to sometimes :)
