Well, it sucks hearing all of this negative stuff about him.

Oh well, at the very least, he's exceptionally good at putting together mix albums. :-)

Well, either way. They have his name on them. And I assume he pays his people pretty well to keep their mouths shut.

Can we at least agree he was good back in the day? My favorite trance album of all time is probably Magik 6: Live in Amsterdam. I assume that was actually him mixing for real, since you can hear little mistakes here and there.

Tiesto will probably remain one of your favorites for a long time but as the music continues to evolve, you'll musical tastes and understanding will also evolve.

My first Tiesto album was Magik 3: Far From Earth when I was in high school. I know that doesn't make me as old-school as some of you, but I've definitely been listening for a long time. the "dj tiesto" sticker that came with Summerbreeze is still on my Sony Discman somewhere next to a bunch of Final Fantasy stickers. :P

Tiesto is the one DJ who has never made a mix CD that I didn't like. It's been a couple of years since he's done one, but still. His sound has evolved a lot over the years, sometimes for the better sometimes not, but I've always liked where he goes with it overall. (Artist albums don't count, those are never as good)

My favorite DJ now-a-days is Ferry, though. It's been that way for a while. "Once Upon a Night" just further solidified that. :-)

Nyana is the best trance compilation of all time in my opinion. I've bought so many hard copies of that CD and given it to so many friends who say they'd like to know what trance is all about. I'm probably going to buy another soon for myself because my brother borrowed my copy and scratched up the Indoor CD.

But living in the past is dumb when it comes to music. Unless Tiesto is scheduled to play a classics set...there is no point in talking about how great he USED to be. In the present, he sucks. And people willing to pay $100 to see him mix for a few hours are dumb. But it's their money, if they like his current sound, good for them. But I'm tired of people bringing up how good he USED to be. You're not paying to see him play his old stuff, so why does it matter how good he USED to be? It's irrelevant to the money you just wasted on his tickets.

I agree with that point, but I have no idea what his live sound is now. Club Life is decent, but radio shows aren't a good indication of how a DJ sounds live a lot of the time.

ISoS 7 was his last mix album, and while it was ok, Richard Durand's ISoS 8 is better. Tiesto is supposed to be releasing his "A New Dawn" mix album soon, and then I'll have a better idea what his current sound is.

Also, like I said, I've never seen him trainwreck live. I see you're in ATL, which is where I lived until May. I couldn't get into his Kaleidoscope show (despite having tickets), and I missed his Tabernacle show a few years back, so the Elements of Life show was the last one I saw, and it was good, but not great.

For me it's Tiesto, Armin, and Ferry. I'll always give those three the benefit of the doubt no matter what they do. I can't help it.

For me it has been Ruth Flowers since '85.

Listen to yourself. You're happy to think of him as a great artist when the vast majority of "his" body of work was done by other people (and some of them are actually TA's) under non-disclosure agreements who get paid a fraction of what he makes off them.

He was good back in the day when he cared - don't give him a pass just because you remember how he used to be. Respect is both earned and destroyed by the people who create it.

I'm sure a lot of people liked garry glitter back in the day until they found out he's a serial child buggerer. OK so that's not exactly fair, but have you heard the quotes about how Tiesto wants to abandon EDM and get in to film scoring? (basically because the money is so much bigger and I know because I'm a score engineer).

Way to support your fans big guy.

The thing is that I haven't heard of that stuff about him until now. I had no idea he wasn't making his own tracks. But his produced tracks aren't what I like. The fact that other people do his mixes for him is the part that bothers me, but again all I have to go by is what people say.

The fact that he USED to be good is what makes it hard to wrap my head the idea of him cheating. He has the talent to make solid mixes, so why wouldn't he do it himself?

As for film scoring... well, it was bound to happen. Oakenfold and BT have both scored films. I'm surprised it took Tiesto this long to want to grab a piece of that pie, not that I like the idea.
