there is no appreciation, go read the main music discussion room and all you see is hating towards the trance genre.
that's like going to a bmw forum and just bashing on the company. in forum terminology, that's called TROLLING. |
Yeah, it's a small but very vocal group, notice how all these "Trance is [insert your favorite explicative here]" threads came up about the same time. Most people who know any better ignore them, which makes the incessant bitching even louder.
Just show up at Circus and you're likely to find quality Trance/Progressive, can't wait for Solarstone! |

I think it's because the superstar trance Dj who produces cookie cutter pop dance, cliched music videos and thinks they're Jesus behind the decks is becoming a turn off. When a music genre reaches a low point (as trance has) people become more vocal in their criticisms and many do abandon it in favor of something different or more credible. |

This is true, an yeah it wasn't a cluster F**K even when GE played earlier this year. Those that caught THE THRILLSEEKERS and GO know what i'm talking about, that sorta trance redefines what "energy" is. (pours salt on floor, tap dances) :P

Well played, sir!
House > Trance when it isn't produced and performed in the Guetta/Afrojack ilk. That is like nails on a chalkboard; just as grating as trance.
deep/tech/groovy/minimal house > (fill in the blank) |

I think that is the annoying part of the criticisms. No one can really say what is "credible" or not since different people like different styles of music. I'll never understand why people get so worked up about someone like Tiesto or Oakenfold putting their arms out for crowd interaction and immediately say they think they are Jesus or something. If it bothered me or if they are not playing the style of music I like, I simply would not support them by going to their gigs. I wouldn't bother going on forums and start posting negative things about them since other people may still like them and enjoy their music. IMO, why be a complainer and kill someone else's good times just because I'm not into their music? |

Lol and that's the gist of it.
But it would be a way better place if all the complainers actually contributed something instead of just ting all over the place. |

Definition of musical credibility:
| quote: | | In music, credibility is an ideological concept and may involve notions of universality, complexity, and originality, and autonomy (Green, 1999). Also involved is authenticity. Financial and artistic autonomy is probably the most vital for indie credibility, the loss of which is called selling out. |
Dunno man, I think youd be struggling to say that Armin, Above & Beyond, Roger Shah and the other guys in that video have any originality or complexity in their music. It's the same formula repeated over and over at labels like Armada and in the live sets of most trance djs. They all copy each other cos they want a piece of the superstar pie.
Problem is this pop trance has reached saturation point with all of these djs sounding exactly the same. People are sick of it and starting to call it out. |

That definition defines it as an ideological concept. I doubt everyone shares that concept or set of ideals. That definition is so vague. In each genre I'm sure you can find examples of tracks even from the same artist that are more complex than others. The financial and artistic autonomy is also something that you can't put a definite number on. I'm sure some indie EDM producer thought Digweed sold out when he made Heaven Scent and appeared in Groove but can you say Digweed is not a credible figure in EDM? Do you think he matches that definition you provided? Like I said, what's the point on being such a downer? If it's just to be annoying because it's the internet then I guess it is what it is. |

It might have turned out that way, but I didn't mean to make it like that. I just saw the vid, decided to share it because it was funny.
Threads like this are better then the walls of spam. Hate me or not I try hard to keep this place interesting. Even if it turns out to be a house vs trance thread, it better then 99% of the that is on TV. |
