Cenk was much calmer about this then i expected them to be. A very understandable rant considering that true progressives and liberals dont really have representation in the US.

the supreme court decision that encompassed campaign donations was a ing disgrace.

What can you expect of the curt whos most liberal member was a conservative appointed by Regan.

Oklahomans voted "no" against raising the state budget for education and "yes" for making the official language of the state, "English" (with exception to American Indian territories).
Oklahoma is ranked #49 in education.

I think this is something that both conservatives and progressives can agree upon.
As for the election, it's hardly a "complete and total rejection of Obama's social democratic agenda" when health care is polling well, Democrats still control the Senate, and there's a Democratic President in the White House with no clear challenger.
Yeah, Democrats took a beating tonight. But now Republicans have a responsibility to help govern. Being the Party of No doesn't work when you have a share of the responsibility (in the House, at least). It's not clear from the Pledge for America that the GOP has any clear plan, and Boehner and Cantor aren't exactly what I'd call strong leaders.
The road gets tougher for Republicans from here. It's one thing to win some local elections - it's a whole other thing to make good of that "second chance" and actually deliver upon your promises.

That's because in principle they know it was a bad decision, but in practice it benefits them immensely. ;)

Yeah, the neat thing about the American system is that it's designed to ebb and flow like this - the "Founding Fathers" have been politicized to no end in this country, but they designed the legislature with the intention that the House would reflect the fluid whims of the people and the Senate would remain more static to long-term objectives and trends. That's held true in this election, which is why I don't see it as a total refudiation (it's in our lexicon now!) of health care reform or anything else in the Democratic platform. The economy sucks, and the Democrats over here did a really crappy job of explaining how without the stimulus the economy would have sucked even worse. They deserved to get hammered a bit.
The more interesting part for me will be the in-fighting that takes place in the Republican leadership. I know Kevin dismisses anything that is aired on MSNBC, but he should watch the interview they did with Eric Cantor last night - the presumptive GOP Majority Leader in the House. When pressed about specific policies the GOP would push for now that they have control, he balked. Multiple times. When he finally conceded that an extension of the Bush tax cuts isn't factored into current budget projections, he then balked as to how they would offset the reduction in revenue, giving some platitudes about how low taxes are pro-people. That's great, but governing is about choices, and the GOP is widely disparate in the types of choices they'd like to see made. So much so that Party leadership seems to be hoping they can get by without making any.
You can't be all things to all people, even within an individual political party. Barack Obama found that out, and Democrats stayed away from the polls in droves yesterday. I have a feeling the Republicans have a pretty big crisis of identity looming in the next six months. Hopefully they'll be able to govern and propose policies that make sense and help America. I have a feeling, however, that this will be a do-nothing Congress that erodes a lot of the political currency Republicans just earned.
As for me, yeah I've been away for awhile - got busy with life, and grad school is over so I'm not always looking to procrastinate anymore. I'll try and stop by from time to time, but probably won't be on every day.

Aaah America :) ... constantly reminding me why I will never raise a child in this country, and will only ever consider moving north or east of NY.
