Fine... does the CBS News poll work for you?

Thank you for posting this comment. First of all, the article clearly says that the credit making it possible will phase out gradually (I'm guessing conveniently around 2013 after Obama hopes to get re-elected). It also says that the credit doesn't stop the rapidly rising double-digit premiums from the Obamacare bill's mandates... it's a classic bait and switch argument. This part of the article is more telling:
| quote: | Small business lobbyists say the Obama administration is overestimating the reach of the tax credit and failing to factor in a slate of new taxes in the health law that will fall on small business, such as a tax on insurers. NFIB, the small business lobby, estimates that fewer than two million employers will end up getting the credit.
"Most of them tell us they can't qualify for the credit, or it's just too low an incentive to be helpful," said Brad Close, vice president of public policy for NFIB. |
And then we have this data, which is more instructive, after the whole "if you like your doctor, you can keep them, your premiums will decrease, blah blah blah" nonsense. Pelosi's proclamation of "We need to pass the bill first so we can see what's in it" is ringing true like a motherfucker:
The company 3M announced this week Obamacare may force up to 23,000 retirees out of their current health care plans. 3M Co. confirmed it would eventually stop offering its health-insurance plan to retirees, citing the federal health overhaul as a factor. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...=googlenews_wsj

Iowa: Principal Financial Group lays off 1,500 people, forced out of Health Care Insurance business, further reducing competition among health insurers in Iowa.

Association of American Medical Colleges: ObamaCare will make doctor shortage 50% worse by 2015.
| quote: | The U.S. healthcare reform law will worsen a shortage of physicians as millions of newly insured patients seek care, the Association of American Medical Colleges said on Thursday.
The group’s Center for Workforce Studies released new estimates that showed shortages would be 50 percent worse in 2015 than forecast.
“While previous projections showed a baseline shortage of 39,600 doctors in 2015, current estimates bring that number closer to 63,000, with a worsening of shortages through 2025,” the group said in a statement. |

The USA needs to sort out the fact that 50 million Americans don't have medical coverage.
Universal healthcare IS costly but it leads to a much healthier population. |

I would actually say the current American Federal government is possibly the greediest faction of people in the world, and they won't do it in such a way that doesn't: A) Insulate themselves from their own policies they push on the masses, and B) give them more power/money/control to wield. I believe it's a lot closer to the truth in saying that they don't really give a about John Q. Homeowner's health and well-being. |

Do you by any chance think the cost of insurance is a burden for business, especially small business? |
|
|
| Alex23 |
| I suppose one could make the argument that a longer living population could become a burden on the social security system :p |

$1 is a 'burden' at some level, so the question is irrelevant.
I can't define what's too much or 'ok,' but whatever burden there is will be taking a nice little hike over the next few years, and for the purpose of the discussion, that's all that's relevant. |
