On New Years I was at a club with some friends and there, in a packed club of thousands, was a purse at my feet. It wasn't any of the girls in the group so I find a phone in there and then find the most recent texts/#s dialed and text them to say the purse is lost and it's at the club and to text me at my # if they want it. 10 mins later I get a reply but the chick took her sweet ass time... another 15 mins or so.. and then was like omg thanks and then she left. lol
Same club, Halloween last year, stupid me put my phone on the urinal (cuz my costume made pockets hard to access) and went I went back in 2 mins later it was gone. I figured I'd never see it again but that morning got a call from a friend saying some guy had my phone, lived near me, and I could go pick it up! SCORE! I even offered the guy $$ and he wouldn't take it.

Good one. I'd probably just tell him I'd leave it in the hotel, but I've got to say he deserved it :p |

Interesting, that tracking thing. Did you know that once I pop your SIM out and wipe your precious iphone, all that lo-jack means... jack? and even if you report it stolen, once it's jail-broken or even wiped - it's fair game. Most carriers don't block or (shockingly) honor IMEI blocks. Especially overseas. You sell that phone and none be the wiser. |

I actually am not an Apple-basher. I'm an avid Macbook Pro fan. I just couldn't resist the play on words, as unimpressive as it was. :)
Also, just out of curiosity... why did you buy an iPad 3 times before determining that you didn't really want it? lol. |
1st time was when it came out - completely un-impressed after 2 weeks, it went back.
2nd time was for a work project I had to do - customer was going to buy it afterwards. But when I tried to demo how well it works on 3G in NYC (ha ha ha! little did I know how infamous NYC 3G +iPad are) client said to scrap the project and return the iPad. It wasn't entirely iPad's fault... but, nonetheless.
3rd time was a morbid glutony for punishment, thinking I need to give it another try, maybe things will work out between us this time. Well, shortly after un-boxing my iPad started to experience crappy WiFi connectivity. My laptop is awash in signal - 100%, iPad is showing flickering 1 WiFi bar (dot).
I figured after 3 attempts to like it, if I didn't succeed in liking it enough to keep it... chances are - I won't. |

I couldn't help but laugh imagining you walking around the club with woman's purse over your shoulder. :p
I recently found a check on the ATM floor, the address was only 5 min away so I dropped it off. Turned out it was a rest home, the office was closed so I wedged into the font door. Tough work being a good samaritan. |

If you're being sarcastic.. check the googles - they don't lie.
What I learned from the experience: Apple’s “lo-jack” service (MobileMe) – is pretty much useless. Supposedly, the owner did have it and he did attempt to send a message with his contact info – but it was never received. They did manage to lock it – which was the only thing it seemed to be good for. However, had I been intent on keeping it – simply removing the SIM card and wiping the iPad would have been sufficient.
So, don’t count on MobileMe or other comparable applications to do much to help you recover it, if lost.
Stick bunch of pictures with your contact info and hope some jack-a$$ who finds it will turn on the "Picture Frame" mode. So much for your privacy, by the way. Hopefully you don't have too much inappropriate content on it. |

| I lost my wallet on campus the other day. Four hours after I last used it ( and when I actually figured out I had lost my wallet ) it happened to be on the lost and found. Feels good, it's good Karma to do the right thing ;) |

So, my mom finds a 3G 64GB iPad at an airport - score! Well, she's not computer savvy, besides iPad is locked, so she gives it to me.
After pangs of hmf pmf... the decent person in me tells me to try and find the owner. So, there's a picture frame button and boy, did this dude have a lot of pictures! Grandkids, baby christenings, golf outings, totally dull and boring - not even a glimps of one babe in a bikini. The most exciting thing on there was an accidental shot of some middle-aged lady's rack. By that point, I was ready to just wipe the damn thing and claim it as my own.
Then, I catch a glimpse of some company outing with a cake bearing company name. Googles to the resque, I find company website. And convenienty, there's "About Us" section with more unremarkable pictures, luckily with some captions. Among them, I spot the owner searing my retinas from countless images I saw earlier. Now I got a name and phone number. Receptionist was kind enough to provide guy's number - I get his VM.
By that point I realize I went through more trouble than it is worth to re-unite this iPad with its rightful owner... but Karma Police is watching and keeping score.
About 10 minutes later, guy calls me - COMPLETELY NON-CHALANT, like it was going to happen! I even offer to meet him 1/2 from where he is (about a 40 mile drive) - and he is like "oh, I got meetings tonight, can't blah blah", so I say - well, whatever. You know where your iPad is, call when you're available, come by pick it up.
I'm sitting there - dumb founded. In perhaps the biggest act of personal generosity and good samaritan deeds of my life... lands on someone who's a)Looks loaded b)Too friggin busy to re-claim his own property on time that's convenient for me and c) I'm now looking to ship the damn thing to him.
Am I crazy or what? Yeah, I know that most folks would keep it and not even bat an eye, GPS tracking and (completely useless) Apple's MobileMe be damned. But in such a world, doesn't it stand to reason that random acts of kindeness are to be met with just a tad more enthusiasm? A simple "Hey, thanks for making my day a little better" or "Wow, not all people are dishonest jerks" would be nice.
In the end, dude did offer to meet me and give me some money... but I'm not driving 40 miles each way for what I suspect a $50 reward. I'll just ship it and call it a day... Gah. |
Same thing happened to me exept with a Brand new Blackberry a few years back, called a load of contacts trying to return it to the dude in the end I had to run across the town to meet the guy befoe he missed his trains and all he said was thanks. Mean while I was about 45 minutes late for my day because I was trying to be nice.
Still it's good to be nice (except on the internet) so still be nice.
You did good mate.
Keep it up! |

This also happened to me and my mates, turned out it was a strippers purse, my mate nicked the smokes out of it but we left the cash, CCs, phone and mp3 in there and turned it in to the cops. Neveer heard all back. Not even a free lap dance! |

Now that you mention it, it happened to me as well, just like that. The person saw my debit card inside my wallet and returned it to the university back, as they figured they'd be able to contact me. And they did. Even the money was inside.
This one time I watched Avatar, however, I retardedly let 100 dollars fall from my pocket in the cinema. Even though it was the last screening and I came back a couple of hour later, the envelope with my money had vanished. In this case, however, there was no contact info, so... |
