You can replace trance with dubstep now. Too many kids around here thinking they know what the scene is all about just because they discovered Skrillex, Excision or Nero. |
Very well mate.

Are you talking about modern so-called "trance"? House, in its common form, is the most mainstream and popular kind of dance music there is...it's what all pop music is remixed into for club listening and dancing. Not sure how even cheesy trance would be more for beginners? Everyone starts with house. |
Trance was achieving mainstream success around the same time the internet became a hot commodity. The fact that this site was founded in 2000 reminds me how a lot of young adults had a supervisor who bought them a PC and found trance through the net as their gateway EDM genre. it wasn't too long ago that DJ Sammy released his infamous single, which became one of the biggest punchlines in electronic scene.
How many ignoramuses can you think of that called Sandstorm "techno"? Anyone who's been listening to electronic for a minute knows that it's actually trance. That track alone proves that when non-EDM fans call everything "techno", they are usually referring to trance tracks.
When I was 14/15, I thought progressive house sounded wack and I wondered why people were digging that wackness. Massive breakdowns and anthems in trance were more appealing than these longer, unorthodox house tracks. It turns out these veteran listeners had a lot of mileage when it came to riding on trance music.
With all that being said, I love trance. |

I don't know anyone who knows who Kalkbrenner is. He's huge in Germany, but "everybody"? What do you call his techno btw, "fart techno"? :p |
In germany he is bigger than David Guetta, Armin van Buuren or anyone else, and since Berlin and germany in general has had a strong edm culture i'd compare him with rock/metal bands of sucess such as Rammstein not as big but closer than any dj.
In Italy is really famous, everybody knows him, i have heard requests of "sky and sand" countless time and in a lot of clubs is the song to turn the lights on in the club.
Same goes for Spain i've plenty of non edm heads into PK, his music is easy going, well made electronica... i don't understand the buzz but i don't censor it either is just a hippie feeling what i get when i listen to his music.
Haven't seen the movie, should do i guess. |

Darude is dance music and a mile away from being trance. That explains why you asked that question, you just know nothing about EDM.
Around the years 2000, the big pop artist (madonna, britney spears, etc.) wanted their music to get played into the clubs, guess what ? They didn't ask trance artist to remix their tracks but house artists who where played in the clubs. |
