I'm trying to figure out the motives behind attacking these reporters yesterday and today. Is the Mubarak regime trying to create a media blackout so that they can go in there and kill everyone in the opposition?

Obviously they are trying to create a media bias for the government. The Egyptian state TV has shown little to nothing about the pro democracy protests.
Once foreign media is out, it would be much easier to silence the protesters. They had snipers with green lasers from the military shooting the protesters early this morning.
It's ridiculous how badly this guy wants to hang on to his power and save face. His net asset value is 10% of the entire countries GDP. Just think about that.

My point: stay out of their business, history has shown us that the more the west gets involved in the Middle Eastern countries at some point later on it will end up back firing at them. I can give you tons of examples of that but I don’t want to disrupt your “way of life”.
Completely true. And the real irony with this and the USA meddling with so many countries in the middle east is they're creating terrorists by the millions. You think its been bad the last 10 years? Wait until all the kids with a dead parent, amputated limb, bombed out city etc grow up and learn how to fight.

I talked to a couple of friends there and they told me that the situation's chaotic there. One of my friends got gassed in the protests that ousted Mubarak, and he says that the tear gas that he came into contact with this time around is way stronger. It's lead to many deaths due to suffocation.
I wholeheartedly hope that things get better there.. as soon as possible. Realistically, the military won't back down from the ridiculous rights that they've been entitled to in the most recent constitutional drafts anytime soon. Getting rid of a military with roots that predate Ottoman rule will be difficult, so hopefully they manage to reach some sort of compromise soon before the situation gets even more out of hand.
Egyptians have been successful in voicing their opinions regarding the President's scope of power in a referendum that took place in March.. but I highly doubt the military will allow for any democratic involvement when it comes to loosening its grip of power. Protests will definitely go on for a while if there is no international involvement.
