BASIC "female" skills are becoming endangered with fewer young women able to iron a shirt, cook a roast chicken or hem a skirt.
Just as more modern men are unable to complete traditional male tasks, new research shows Generation Y women can't do the chores their mothers and grandmothers did daily, reported The Courier-Mail.
Only 51 per cent of women aged under 30 can cook a roast compared with 82 per cent of baby boomers.
Baking lamingtons is a dying art with 20 per cent of Gen Y capable of whipping up the Aussie classic, down from 45 per cent for previous generations.
Social researcher Mark McCrindle said: "Women of today tend to be busier, juggling more roles, and are quite prepared to compromise a bit of the homemade just to save some time.
"They also have a lot more disposable income compared with their mums and their grandmothers so buying a cake mix or lamingtons ready-made is not a big deal."

I find this pretty sad. I've heard some horror stories of girls who goes off to uni, but can't even cook mac and cheese, or do a load of laundry.
It's not that I think women should be homemakers first and don't have a full time job. But I think everyone, regardless of gender, should have basic life skills like cooking or doing laundry, sewing etc. Because when you live on your own and your parents can't do everything for you, you gotta do it yourself.
There is a big failure of parenting. I know I did my own chores when I became a teen. Is there still Family Studies course in junior high? That's where I learned to sew.
Not to mention girls who can cook are sexy as hell. Maybe because I feel that she's a kind of a girl that who can support me.
Seriously. What the hell are we teaching our teenagers nowadays? |

| Sad indeed, but the percentages don't come as a surprise to me.. Even the ones who THINK they can cook usually do a ty job at it or can only cook basic that shouldn't even be considered cooking. |

"My wife asked me why i dont treat her properly like a woman... so i gave her my shirt and told her to iron it"
"My wife told me to take her somewhere she had never been before, so i took her to the men's room"

Women have been too busy trying to be men that they forgot how to do the basics. Twenty years ago I would have said men would be less likely to be able to survive without women but now I think men are more able to care for themselves then women are.
I do 90% of the cooking in my house and we usually share in doing the other household chores. |

I just don't see why this is newsworthy. Men have been failing at basic life skills for all of eternity! |

I'd say its newsworthy for the poor children these women will one day want. Mommy will be sitting at home not having a clue how to cook a simple meal for them or be able to do their laundry. |

| Seriously, if a male or female can't make their way around the kitchen or do a load of laundry it's a massive parenting fail. Training your sons and daughters properly! Stuff like this amazes me with the amount of information we have at our finger tips. My being a good cook is directly proportional to my access to the internet and Jamie Oliver...lol. I make a mean standing prime rib roast :) At some point you really have to take matters into your own hands. |

I find there's something so sexy and intimate about preparing a meal with your partner. I don't think many people realize what a great bonding experience it is...to create and enjoy something together.
Nothing sexy about wasting money on ty take-out every night. :o |
